While Minecraft has managed to remain largely popular for over 15 years, it appears the developers cannot find success with any other alternative to the game. Spin-offs, such as MC Dungeons, Earth, and even the latest MC Legends, have not delivered anything impactful. Now, the game's virtual reality version seems to have also received the final nail in the coffin.
In an official blog post, Mojang Studios announced that the game will not be supported on PlayStation VR from March 2025.
The news came in the official patch notes post for the 1.21.30 update of the Bedrock Edition. While there were some major changes explained in the blog post, a small section titled “PlayStation VR” mentioned that Mojang Studios will not support PlayStation VR after five years. The official support was announced in 2020. But this leaves a lot of questions for those who play it on the VR headset.
Minecraft loses PlayStation VR support
Those who play the game on PlayStation VR will not be able to do so after the final update is dropped. Thus, players have a few months before the developers pull the plug. Minecraft is still supported on the PlayStation with all the bells and whistles and will continue to get updates.
The idea of playing the game on a virtual reality headset was interesting. However, why they decided to stop VR support is currently unknown. It seems Mojang Studios is having a tough time at the moment, as the trailer for the official Minecraft movie has also come under fire from fans.
Apart from this, the patch notes have focused on the addition of bundles to the Bedrock version of the game. It is one of the most awaited features, allowing players to increase their inventory size. It works like a shulker box but is not that difficult to obtain. A bundle can be crafted using a string and one piece of leather.
