5 times Conor McGregor went on a Twitter warpath

UFC 264: Poirier v McGregor 3
Conor 'The Notorious' McGregor

Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has become increasingly more volatile as the years go by. The Irishman has developed a short fuse compared to his earlier days when he was more lighthearted and willing to trade barbs with fellow UFC roster-mates without losing his temper.

While 'The Notorious' hasn't been sighted inside an octagon since suffering a devastating leg break against Dustin Poirier in the pair's grudge match at UFC 264, he has been very active on Twitter. Whether he is offering his thoughts on a fight minutes after its conclusion or simply trash-talking, he's always on Twitter.

At times, he embarks on rage-fueled tirades against people for the lightest of slights. This list looks at five such incidents, including his infamous death threats and his other threats. The Irishman has crossed every boundary there is and it doesn't seem like he'll slow down.

#5. Conor McGregor takes aim at Khabib Nurmagomedov's wife

It's no secret who Conor McGregor's most hated rival is. Ever since Khabib Nurmagomedov confronted Artem Lobov at a hotel and posted the footage online, he and Conor McGregor have been at odds. The Irishman finally faced 'The Eagle' at UFC 229 in what was the promotion's most successful PPV of all time.

Despite losing to the undefeated lightweight legend, 'The Notorious' has been adamant about avenging his loss and he has never stopped insulting the Dagestani phenom. Back in 2019, he engaged in a Twitter tirade as he accused Nurmagomedov of avoiding a potential rematch before getting personal.

He uploaded a picture of Nurmagomedov and his wife during the pair's wedding day. In the picture, Nurmagomedov's wife's face was covered by a veil. McGregor described her as a towel before claiming that there was a goat under the veil.

#4. Conor McGregor threatens Dustin Poirier's family

The enmity between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is second only to the Irishman's hatred for Khabib Nurmagomedov. The former UFC double champion first crossed swords with 'The Diamond' back in their featherweight days before the pair faced off in a rematch years later.

Unfortunately, for McGregor, he lost the bout but promised to donate to Poirier's charity. His promises remained unfulfilled, prompting Poirier to expose his foe's insincerity. This led an enraged McGregor to repeatedly threaten the Louisianan's life during the leadup to their trilogy bout.

Despite breaking his leg against 'The Diamond', the Irishman remained relentless and embarked on a Twitter rampage that saw him threaten Poirier's family. He posted pictures of Poirier's young daughter while labeling himself a dangerous man while Tweeting 'Gonezo', which means 'gone'.

#3. Conor McGregor targets Michael Bisping

In late 2022, Conor McGregor took aim at former middleweight champion Michael Bisping with an enraged series of tweets. After securing a role in Jake Gyllenhaal's remake of classic action movie Road House, 'The Notorious' launched insults in the Englishman's direction due to the latter's appearance in a previous movie.

The retired 185'er appeared alongside action movie star Vin Diesel in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, a film that Conor McGregor was originally scheduled to take part in. However, due to his octagon commitments, McGregor was unable to take part in the film and was replaced by Bisping.

The Englishman responded to the former double champion's insults with his own insults before warning him that the next time they cross paths and McGregor is without his bodyguards, he had better be cautious. This caused the Irishman to erupt with a series of threats.

He swore to cave in Bisping's skull while claiming he'd have security set him alongside numerous other promises as he threatened to go to war with the one-time middleweight titleholder. Bisping, for his part, ignored McGregor's words.

#2. Conor McGregor threatens Tom Aspinall

Tom Aspinall is one of the most exciting heavyweights in the UFC. Many regard him as a potential future champion due to his combination of crisp boxing and slick Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills. Furthermore, his speed is something that's unheard of at 265 lbs. Unfortunately, the Englishman is currently nursing an injury.

He came up short against Curtis Blaydes in a bout meant to assess his ceiling in the promotion. During his time away from the cage, Aspinall became a more vocal presence on the sidelines. He was recently asked about his thoughts on Conor McGregor's upcoming return to the octagon.

Aspinall exclaimed that there are other fights he is more interested in watching. His comments were enough to trigger McGregor into a rage as the Irishman threatened to starve the rising heavyweight star and cancel his Gym King sponsorship.

#1. Conor McGregor's TUF revelations

Conor McGregor is currently scheduled to return to the octagon in a highly anticipated bout with three-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler. The date for their expected clash is yet to be determined as 'The Notorious' works to convince USADA to grant him an exception to its drug testing regulations.

Meanwhile, the Irishman took part in the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter. He starred as a coach alongside his future foe Michael Chandler. While the results of his second stint on TUF remain unknown, 'The Notorious' has implied that he emerged victorious.

In a series of since-deleted tweets, the Irishman viciously insulted MMA's top coaches before proclaiming the superiority of John Kavanagh's training methods and how they allegedly helped him become the winning coach of TUF 31.
