Fans reacted to Dricus du Plessis agreeing that his fighting style isn't "pretty."
In October 2020, du Plessis made his UFC debut with a professional MMA record of 14-2. At the time, most fans and analysts underestimated his potential due to his reckless fighting style, which features questionable fundamentals and a warrior spirit.
Since then, du Plessis has surprisingly established an 8-0 promotional record, including two wins for the middleweight title. The 30-year-old's latest win against Israel Adesanya further proved he shouldn't be overlooked against any opponent moving forward.
Earlier this week, du Plessis took to Instagram and posted a picture of himself training. The reigning UFC middleweight king added the following caption referencing his fighting style:
"It’s not pretty but damn it’s effective.."
Fans took to the comments section and reacted to du Plessis' humble caption:
"DDP by pure gigachading"
"Dricus wins by tripping on a banana peel and swinging a shit ton of power of a overhand r1"
"Caption 😭 DDP hears us yall"
"Champ for a reason!"
Dricus du Plessis' unpredictable fighting style was showcased in his latest fight against Israel Adesanya. 'The Last Stylebender' seemed to be taking over the main event matchup in the later rounds before du Plessis quickly turned the tides and retained his title with a fourth-round rear-naked choke.
Who should Dricus du Plessis defend his middleweight title against?
Dricus du Plessis dethroned Sean Strickland of the UFC middleweight throne with a split decision in January. Five months later, Strickland returned to the octagon and bounced back with a split decision win against Paulo Costa.
Dana White has since announced that du Plessis's next middleweight title will be a rematch against Strickland. There wasn't much of an argument for another 185-pound contender to receive the opportunity until UFC 308 played out.
On Oct. 26, Khamzat Chimaev made a massive statement in the division by securing a first-round submission against Robert Whittaker. Chimaev's jaw-destroying performance moved him to the number-three ranking.
Du Plessis has voiced his interest in facing a new challenge like Chimaev. 'Borz' has a strong argument for deserving the title shot, but White's promise to Strickland means the rematch is expected to take place in early 2025.
