Paulo Costa insists that his scheduled bout against Robert Whittaker at UFC 284 isn't going to happen.

The UFC recently announced a slate of fights for the upcoming event in Perth, Australia. A middleweight showdown between Whittaker and Costa was billed as one of the main attractions.

Check out the announcement below:

But for some reason, Costa has been claiming on social media that he isn't going to fight the former UFC middleweight champion. On Twitter, 'Borrachinha' posted a poster of UFC 283 along with the caption:

"Hey guys I’m here again to say the obvious. I don’t have a deal to fight in Perth A lot of fans are sending their regards for this fight, but ITSNOT FOR REAL , anyway see u soon in mma or boxing"

Then again, it's always advisable to take Costa's words with a grain of salt. It's highly likely that the self-proclaimed "Meme God" of MMA is spreading misinformation about his fight in the name of trolling.

Whittaker is fresh off an impressive victory against fellow top contender Marvin Vettori. Originally born in New Zealand but now residing in Australia, Whittaker has remained one of the most popular fighters in the Oceanic region.

Meanwhile, Costa is also coming off a victory against former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 278. The victory put Costa back in the win column after he dropped back-to-back fights against Israel Adesanya and Vettori.

Robert Whittaker unimpressed with Paulo Costa's latest win

Robert Whittaker wasn’t too impressed with Paulo Costa’s win over Luke Rockhold in the co-main event of UFC 278.

Costa convinced all three judges to give him the decision nod after three competitive rounds against Rockhold. However, Whittaker thought Costa could've done better against the former champion.

Speaking about his upcoming opponent in an interview with Submission Radio, Whittaker said:

"Luke landing effective shots on Costa is no surprise. He’s going to land shots no matter who he fights, really. But in saying that, Luke himself said it as well; He didn’t want to be there. Like, his will to fight was just not there. He was kind of just like, 'Oh man, let’s just get through this.' And Costa still struggled with a Rockhold that did not want to be there."
