Jon Jones hints at redemption from past mistakes at UFC 285

Jon Jones was crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world at UFC 285 last night. 'Bones' faced No.1-ranked contender Ciryl Gane and submitted the former interim heavyweight champion with surprising ease in round 1.

To the amazement of fans, Jones was accompanied by his fiancee, Jessie Moses, for his heavyweight debut last night. 'Bones' was involved in a domestic violence dispute with Moses in Las Vegas in 2021 and had not publicly acknowledged her since February 2022.

Jon Jones thanked his fiancee for her support during his post-fight speech, stating that she was his "biggest supporter." He then alluded to having found redemption from his past transgressions when speaking to Jon Anik and Michael Eaves of ESPN following UFC 285:

"We all have our past, and thank God that he’s making me the man that I am today. Me and my family are better than we ever have been. I just thank God so much for him using me to let other people see that none of us are perfect, and that despite your downfalls, the sky is the limit for those who don’t give up, for those who know how to get down on their knees and pray. And I thank God for this platform. It means the world to me."

Jon Jones has had several infamous run-ins with the law, as well as multiple drug test failures for both PEDs and cocaine consumption.

However, during UFC 285 fight week, Jones spoke about going to therapy, among other things, in order to forgive himself for his past mistakes, and appears to be a more grounded and mature individual.

Jon Jones assures Dana White that he has nothing to worry about at UFC 285 after-party

Jon Jones will be celebrating in style after submitting Ciryl Gane to become the UFC heavyweight champion and, in turn, the latest two-division champion. However, considering Jones' reputation as a wild man with previous legal troubles, many wondered if it would be for the best if he stayed away from celebrating in Las Vegas.

'Bones' will be hosting an after-party at the Hakkasan nightclub at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. During his post-fight press conference, Jones assured UFC President Dana White that he had nothing to worry about at the champion's after-party:

"He has no reason to be worried. Dana knows we all make mistakes... I'm excited to go out, to meet my fans... I know the tickets were more expensive than they normally are, and a lot of people don't get the opportunity to see me in person. I want to give as much good energy as I can. So my after party isn't about drinking or anything like that."
