Ahead of his long-anticipated return to competition, ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty is preparing for a new challenge. At ONE on Prime Video 4, Haggerty will make his debut in the bantamweight division.

The former flyweight Muay Thai world champion has faced the very best in the weight class below. With a new set of challengers in his way, Haggerty has been scouting out the division to plan his route to the world championship.

‘The General’ will return to face Russia’s Vladimir Kuzmin as he attempts to make his mark in his new weight class.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Jonathan Haggerty identified a potential opponent for his second fight at bantamweight. ‘Elbow Zombie’ Muangthai PK.Saenchai could open the door to the top of the division for the Brit. He said:

“I’d like to fight him next because I think he’s a good name to beat. Then that just puts me straight in the top five.”

Muangthai is 4-1 in ONE Championship, last facing Haggerty’s upcoming opponent Kuzmin and defeating him via a split decision.

Whilst he is yet to make his debut at bantamweight, Haggerty isn’t looking to make up the numbers in his new weight class. The former flyweight Muay Thai king is hunting down a second world championship and will attempt to put the other contenders on notice at ONE on Prime Video 4.

“I’m bantamweight now, mate” - Jonathan Haggerty has not forgotten that Bibiano Fernandes wanted to fight him

ONE on Prime Video 4 will have two highly anticipated returns when former champions Bibiano Fernandes and Jonathan Haggerty step back inside the circle.

This isn’t the first time that both men have been scheduled to compete at the same event. At ONE: Bad Blood, Fernandes was scheduled to face John Lineker, though the fight was postponed.

Haggerty stayed on the card and throughout the week, some of the fighters competing tested their power on a punching machine.

‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty proved to have a more powerful strike than heavyweights Anatoly Malykhin and Kirill Grishenko as well as former bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes.

When Fernandes was told John Lineker had to pull out of their fight during fight week, he was disappointed and was eager to fight. He asked to fight “the skinny guy” who beat his score on the punching machine, Jonathan Haggerty, but was told that Haggerty was a flyweight.

With Haggerty debuting in a new weight class at ONE on Prime Video 4, his encounter with Fernandes was brought up in an interview with The MMA Superfan. 'The General' said:

“I haven’t really watched Bibiano, but from what I’ve seen from him, he’s a monster. I remember when he wanted to fight me and he said ‘that tall guy.’ I’m bantamweight now, mate, what do you want?”
