Liam Harrison has been relegated to the sidelines since his clash with bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Nong-O Hama at ONE on Prime Video 1.
After losing the fight due to damage done to his legs in the opening round, Harrison suffered a knee injury that has kept him out of competition and forced him to turn down some big opportunities in ONE Championship.
At this stage of his career, with over 100 fights under his belt, the veteran knows that he needs to be smart in order to prolong his career. Whilst his injuries haven’t kept him entirely out of the gym, ‘Hitman’ is giving his body the time that it needs to recover before he makes a big decision in his career.
In a recent interview with The MMA Superfan, Liam Harrison spoke about how he wants to maximize the time that he has left as a competitor, but is well aware that he may have to make some tough calls depending on how he feels once he is back in fighting shape.

He said:
“I wanna get the fights in while I can before it’s time to call it a day. You never know. Listen, after my knee surgery, if my body is not letting me, if I can feel like I can not fight as well as I could a couple of years ago and if I lost a little bit of speed, a little bit of sharpness. I might just call it a day.”

Liam Harrison explains why he's not keen on joining Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix
Due to his knee injuries, Liam Harrison had to let a few huge opportunities pass him by. Not only was he forced to rule himself out of a once in a lifetime exhibition boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, he had to pass on one of ONE Championship’s biggest events of the year.
Earlier in 2023, the promotion announced a huge Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix that promises dream matchups that fans never thought they would get to see.
With Liam Harrison being one of the most exciting fighters in ONE Championship’s roster, ‘Hitman’ would have been a great addition to the roster of the tournament. But this stage in his career, Harrison knows he needs to be smart.
Liam Harrison is still recovering from the injuries that he suffered following his clash with Nong-O Hama last year and as he waits to be back in fighting shape, the format of the Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix served as a barrier to entry for him at this stage.
In his interview with The MMA Superfan, he said:
“I know, just from my look, that I’d get some giant or Regian Eersel or someone like that in the first round. I’m just coming back from injury, I don’t wanna go into a tournament. I just got my body strong again, I got my body fresh, and then fight some giant, especially in four-ounce MMA gloves in the first round.”
