Jon Jones defeated Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua at UFC 128 back in March 2011 to be crowned the UFC light heavyweight champion. Jones also became the youngest champion in the history of the UFC in the process. On fight day, however, Jones became a vigilante and engaged in a fight outside the octagon.

Jones always finds some quiet time to meditate for a few hours before he goes into fight mode. This routine serves to steady his nerves and prepare him for the storm ahead. Hours before his fight against Rua, Jones found a quaint place in Paterson, New Jersey, where he engaged in his ritual. It is worth noting that Paterson is notoriously famous for its crime rates and public squalor.

Jones was warned by a local about the frequent armed robberies in the area. However, he ignored the warnings, and while exiting his vehicle, he saw a Spanish couple, who had just been robbed, screaming for help.

Without hesitation, Jon Jones chased the mugger, located him, and tackled him to the ground, where he remained until the police arrived. Jones even called UFC President Dana White to narrate the incident, who was completely taken aback by Jones' heroic actions. White later met UFC color commentator Joe Rogan backstage and narrated the incident to him:

"Me and you [Rogan] got to talk about this one thing. He [Jones] went to meditate at the park. Some lady yells that she has been robbed... [Jones] chases the f**king guy a mile, leg kicks him from behind, gets on top and figure fours him till the f**king police come. We are lucky he didn't get shot, stabbed..."

Jon Jones once chased a robber away from his property

The above incident was not the only time Jon Jones had to deal with such a situation. He once posted CCTV footage on Instagram that showed him chasing the car thief.

According to Jones, the suspect intended to steal one of his cars from the parking lot:

"Next time you try to rob someone, make sure you’re fast enough to out run them. He’s lucky I’m smart enough to not shoot a man while he’s retreating."

Jon Jones is set to make his octagon return after a three-year-long hiatus. He will lock horns with Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight championship at UFC 285 this weekend.
