Joe Rogan hosted former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill on a previous episode of The Joe Rogan Experience [JRE]. During the sit-down, the two discussed Islam Makhachev's incredible submission skills and broke down his unique techniques.
Makhachev has established his status as a polished fighter who excels in every aspect of the sport. He currently sits at the No.1 spot in the UFC's official pound-for-pound rankings. He defended his title earlier this year by securing a first-round submission victory against Renato Moicano and is set to move up to the 170-pound division after vacating his lightweight title.
Hill highlighted Makhachev's impressive performance against Charles Oliveira in 2022, where he hurt the Brazilian on the feet and then proceeded to lock in an arm triangle choke that won him the title. 'Sweet Dreams' went on to explain Makhachev's unique technique that makes his choke extremely effective.
"How Islam beat Charles, nobody saw that coming. That was going to be a tough fight too. [He hurt him] on the feet, beat him standing, and then followed him to where everybody thought [Oliveira] would be safe. I have seen a clip of a choke that he did. I know why that choke was so tight now. When most people finish the head and arm choke, they go into the elbow, he went up higher [on the bicep]."

Rogan stated that Makhachev possesses exceptional power and squeeze in the wrestling domain, the type of power that only very few fighters have. He said:
"I think his squeeze is just phenomenal, because if you see the way he tapped [out] Drew Dober too, the same sort of situation. I think that it's just a next-level power and squeeze. Some dudes just have next-level squeeze and next-level grappling power. He has developed that [throughout] his whole life. He's also enormous for 155 [pounds]."
