Dana White responded to Gilbert Burns’ request for a title shot in his next fight.

At UFC 287, Burns made a statement by securing a dominant unanimous decision win against Jorge Masvidal. The Rio de Janeiro native now finds himself in an intriguing position in the welterweight division. Colby Covington has been confirmed as the next welterweight title challenger, but ‘Durinho’ isn’t willing to fight another top contender.

During the UFC 287 post-fight media interview, Burns had this to say about what he wants next:

“Now I’m demanding that I’m going to do my training camp for five rounds, I go to London, and I’m next in line to fight for the title. Otherwise, let me go, let me do my thing. These guys asking a million in other organizations, you know. That’s it, I’m a backup for the next title fight, and I’m fighting for the title next.”

Later in the night, White was asked about Burns’ demands and responded by saying:

“I love that,” White said. “Yeah, why not? You got a deal.”

Gilbert Burns accuses Jorge Masvidal of cheating at UFC 287

Gilbert Burns was never in any serious danger in his fight against Jorge Masvidal. With that said, he was unable to get a finish, which could have improved his argument for a title shot next time out.

During his UFC 287 post-fight media interview, Burns claimed that Masvidal was covered in lotion, preventing him from winning inside the distance:

"I know those old tricks that those guys do. You know what they do? They wake up on Saturday, and they take their first shower, then they put a lot of lotion on their body. The skin absorbs the lotion, and then after three hours, you do it again. Then after you do it again, then again. Whenever you start sweating a lot [you get slippery]. For sure, he did that, 100% he did. I'm telling you, I'm not like, 'Oh maybe [he is greased]' No, 100% he did it. He was so slippery."

On April 8, Burns extended his winning streak to two. Before taking out Masvidal, the 36-year-old started the year with a first-round submission against Neil Magny in January. It’ll be intriguing to see if ‘Durinho’ has his wish granted and fights for the UFC welterweight title in his next Octagon appearance.
