Amorphous Material in The First Descendant is one of the most important resources, period. You will need to keep this in mind anytime you’re looking to research either Descendants or weapons; they're almost certainly going to come from Amorphous Material. The process can be pretty frustrating, as you’ll need very specific versions of this resource. However, if you’re looking to rack these up and pop them open, we can help.
When playing The First Descendant, you’re going to want to keep the following gameplay loop in mind. Amorphous Materials hold the key to farming a lot of Descendants and Ultimate Weapons. Thankfully, there are in-game activities that reward these. Let’s dive into the topic, now that the MMO shooter is live.
How to acquire Amorphous Material in The First Descendant
If you want to unlock more classes in The First Descendant or get better weapons, you better get ready to unlock Amorphous Materials. Each of these is tied to a specific Amorphous Material somewhere in the game.
For example, if you want Freyna’s Equipment pattern, you need to complete a specific mission: In this case, it’s neutralizing the Vulgus Strategic Outpost at Rockfall, in the Sterile Land. Success grants you the Amorphous Material Pattern: Freya.
Thankfully, if you want to find a specific Amorphous Material to hunt down, you can go to the Access Info menu. Another option is to go to Anais’s research menu. There you can find the specific mission you need for the Material you’re trying to hunt down. They come from a variety of mission types:
- Zone Recon
- Special Operations
- Calling of the Descendants
- Void Intercepts
- Mine Blocking
The game is relatively new, so other missions could later pop up that reward players with the Amorphous Material that they’re after. Once you have this item, you’ll need to crack it open.

Opening Amorphous Material in The First Descendant: Where to find Reconstructed Device?
To open Amorphous Material in The First Descendant, you need a Reconstructed Device. This can be found at the end of a successful Void Intercept Battle or Void Fusion Reactor mission. Once completed, head to the Reconstructed Device that spawns, and interact with it to open up the Amorphous Material. These give you items from a loot table connected to that item.
This is perhaps the most frustrating part - you aren’t guaranteed to get exactly what you want. You could wind up farming the same Amorphous Material several times to get what you’re after in the game. If you have Shape Stabilizers, you can use these to improve your odds, but that’s about it.
Note that each Amorphous Material is connected to a specific Reconstructed Device. If you hover over the Material, it should tell you what Void Interception you need to complete for it.
