LA Rams' QB update: Is Baker Mayfield starting today vs. the Seattle Seahawks?

The Los Angeles Rams grabbed Baker Mayfield off waivers earlier last month after the Carolina Panthers put him on waivers. He was rushed into the thick of the action in the first game against the Las Vegas Raiders just two days after moving to Los Angeles.

While he guided the Rams to a game-winning 98-yard TD run in the game's final two minutes, Mayfield accomplished one of the most incredible feats of the campaign.

When the season started, no one would have guessed that the Los Angeles Rams would be starting Baker Mayfield at quarterback in January, in the same way that it was almost impossible to think the team would not advance to the postseason. The Los Angeles Rams will play against the Seattle Seahawks in the last game of the regular season, with Mayfield expected to start at quarterback. The Seahawks are hopeful Los Angeles won't ruin their hopes of qualifying for a wild-card spot.

In this campaign, Mayfield has a 2-2 record when suiting up for his new team. He passed for 230 yards and at least one score in each of his two wins. He also passed for fewer than 150 yards in his two losses.

He has likely performed well enough to improve his reputation before moving to Los Angeles. For a total of 703 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception on 69 of 103 attempts, Baker Mayfield has completed 67 percent of his passes. He has tossed the ball for 230 yards twice in four games and has passed for the Los Angeles outfit.

"He's done a wonderful job, and if this hasn't improved people's perceptions of him, I'm not sure what he could've done to change that perception. I know I have loved working with him, and I think extremely highly of him," said Sean McVay

Will Baker Mayfield play for the Rams next season?

Baker Mayfield, currently on a fifth-year option, will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Because he can compete for a starting role elsewhere, Mayfield may decide he does not want to remain in Los Angeles.

Mayfield could receive offers from the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, and Washington Commanders this offseason. Some of these organizations will allow him to contend for a starting position. Matthew Stafford playing with the Rams will prevent him from having that chance.
