Ashutosh Mehta is an Indian footballer who currently plays as a right back for FC Pune City. His flashy forwards run and stoic defending makes him an indispensable asset to his team.


Mehta was born on 21 February 1991 in Surat before his family moved to Mumbai. He has his upbringing as a typical middle class Mumbaikar whose passion for football drove him to college level football and finally as a reward of his toil, he won a contract with Mumbai FC.

Club career

Ashutosh started as a sprightly right back for Mumbai FC. His debut was against HAL in a Federation Cup match.

He was a regular starter for the team from his first season. He continued to prove his credentials but could not pave a way into the national team reckoning. He gave good displays in his third season for Mumbai scoring three important goals in of the 2013-14 season.

His commendable performances earned him a contract with Pune City FC for the inaugural ISL season. The first season was one to forget for Pune although his performances were a silver lining for the hapless Pune.

Mumbai City raided him from their city rivals for the next edition. However, it did very little to overturn their dismal fortunes and they finished 6th in the table.

Aizawl FC got his services from Mumbai for 2016 I-League. Aizawl FC needed experience in their nascency and Ashutosh played the role of being that leading figure. He led the defense by example and became a vital cog in Aizawl’s magical debut run to the I-League title.

He scored a marvellous goal against Mohun Bagan in a losing cause. His consistency gave Aizawl forward line the freedom to get ahead and create chances with Mehta himself drilling in venomous crosses.

He won the hearts of Mizo people not only on the football field. During the flash floods in the North East in 2017, he and teammate Jayesh Rane started a fundraising campaign to a aid the affected people. The act was commendable and it received a huge support.

The City of Joy came calling in the 2017 ISL draft for Mehta. Atletico de Kolkata signed him for Rs 45 lakhs.

For the 2018 ISL, Ashutosh was on the move again, as he was signed by FC Pune City.
