Mickey Charles Mantle also known by his nicknames "the Commerce Comet" and "the Mick" was an American professional player in the Major Leagues Baseball. He was born on 20 October 1931 and died on 13 August 1995 of liver cancer. Mantle used to play the position of center fielder in the MLB. He was with the New York Yankees from 1951 to 1968.


Mantle was drafted by the Yankees in 1948 for the Minor Leagues. He debuted his Major Leagues career with the Yankees in 1951. He is one of the best sluggers and switches in the history of baseball. He has many accolades to his name. Mantle is a twenty times All-Star, seven times World Series Champion and he also won the Triple Crown in 1956.

Mickey Mantle was born on 20 October 1931. He was born in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. His mother was Lovell Howard and his father was Elvin Charles. Mantle was named after a Hall of Fame catcher named, Mickey Cochrane. He attended Commerce High School when he moved to Commerce, Oklahoma after he moved there when he was only four years old. Mantle used to love playing baseball even when he was young.

When Mickey Mantle was young he used to cheer for the St. Louis Cardinals. In high school he used to play three sports; football, baseball, and basketball. A football game in his high school almost ended his athletic career before it could even start. He got injured during a football game, he was hit in his left ankle. However, thanks to the discovery of penicillin he was saved. Mantle was extremely close with his father but his father was also a domineering presence in his life.

The two had separated in 1980 but didn’t file for a divorce. They remained married until Mantle died in 1995.
