Similarly, Mickey would bat right-handed when his grandfather Charles pitched in left-handed to him. Mickey’s father Elvin enjoyed seeing him start in the World Series. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease and he passed away at the age of 40 on May 7, 1952.

Mickey Mantle’s mother was Lovell Mantle. She was a homemaker. According to Mickey, his dad asked his mom to make a baseball bat for him when he was in the cradle. She also made his first baseball uniform by cutting down his father’s baseball uniform. She and Mickey had studied over his first contract from the New York Yankees together. She passed away on March 19, 1995 at Guin Nursing Home.
