Mickey Charles Mantle was a former professional baseball player. As a center fielder, he had played for the New York Yankees throughout his entire MLB career.

Mickey Mantle was born on October 20, 1931 in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. He made his MLB debut for the Yankees on April 17, 1951. He was known as one of the best players, sluggers and switch hitters of all time. He was a 20-time All-Star from 1952-1965, 1967 and 1968. He became the AL batting champion in 1956. Furthermore, he was also a Triple Crown winner in 1956. He won the Gold Glove Award in 1962. He was also a 7-time World Series Champion from 1951-1953, 1956, 1958, 1961 and 1962.

Mickey Mantle had achieved a batting average of .298 with 536 home runs, 1509 RBI, 153 stolen bases, .421 OBP and .978 OPS. He was inducted into the Baseball National Hall of Fame in 1974. He passed away on August 13, 1995 in Dallas, Texas.

Mickey Mantle’s Father

Mickey Mantle’s father was Elvin Charles “Mutt” Mantle. He worked in lead and zinc mines and also played semi-pro baseball himself. He and his father, Charles Mantle, also taught Mickey how to play baseball. Mickey batted left-handed against his father when he pitched right-handed to him. Similarly, Mickey would bat right-handed when his grandfather Charles pitched in left-handed to him. Mickey’s father Elvin enjoyed seeing him start in the World Series. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease and he passed away at the age of 40 on May 7, 1952.

Mickey Mantle’s Mother

Mickey Mantle’s mother was Lovell Mantle. She was a homemaker. According to Mickey, his dad asked his mom to make a baseball bat for him when he was in the cradle. She also made his first baseball uniform by cutting down his father’s baseball uniform. She and Mickey had studied over his first contract from the New York Yankees together. She passed away on March 19, 1995 at Guin Nursing Home.
