August Alsina claims his boyfriend Zu lied about his age when they first met as the latter clears underage dating allegations

R&B singer August Alsina's boyfriend and aspiring artist, Zu, addressed ongoing rumors that the former had groomed him. On September 1, Zu posted a picture on X with August's arm around him. He captioned the post, "Can't get enough of you".

August, who is 32, reposted Zu's tweet on Instagram Stories with the subtexts "...3 shots in & 5 years later!" and "But I got a little game that I want to play".

Netizens soon began questioning August and Zu's age gap as they believed Zu was 22. They further speculated that if August claimed to have known Zu for 5 years, the latter was likely underage when they met.

Despite never having confirmed the nature of their relationship before, August and Zu have sparked romance rumors since making their connection public in 2022. However, recent claims about August allegedly grooming Zu prompted the younger artist to address the subject on X.

Zu, who is reportedly 22, confirmed his romance with August Alsina, calling him his "boyfriend". He clarified that the two met when Zu was an adult and denied the grooming allegations. Zu asserted:

"Nothing is ever forced on either end, hope this clears up any confusion."

August Alsina quoted Zu's post:

"hey @ Grok pls sum this up, because the Yung God Has Spoken! Grok: The message seems to be a collective gathering, letting them know to play somewhere, where it's safe… cus playing w/ them AINT IT!!.. & that's on the Ancestral Lineage who comes thru w/ a vengeance!"

An X user defended August Alsina and blamed netizens for harassing the two musicians into making their relationship public. August quoted the post and shared that Zu hid his real age when they first met:

"The even crazier part is that Zu lied to me about how old he was when we first clicked up. Granted, he was over 18… but the fact still remains. & I found out later, upon meeting the family."

Slamming the internet for making a fuss about their relationship and age calculations, August Alsina added:

"BUT this is information that would require me throwing my ni**a under the bus, and involving mf's in our story, who ain't worthy… just to appease their own trauma. Ni**as be so desperate to project their unhappiness and spin a narrative, it's truly a reflection of the deeply unhealed inner-child."

Zu defends boyfriend August Alsina against grooming narratives

Taking to X on September 2, Zu countered ongoing grooming rumors concerning his relationship with August Alsina:

"This is my first and only time addressing this, I don't give a f*ck about any external validation whatsoever. I don't need anyone's likeness, But I'm a grown a** man, with his own mind and free will...if I ever do anything it's because I want to do it."

Zu continued:

"I met August when I was already of age, an adult. August didn't even know me when I was 16 or 17...not sure where that came from.. yea there's a slight age difference but y'all pick and chooses who to judge when it comes to that."

Referring to August Alsina's IG Stories repost, Zu explained:

"We will have known each other for 5 years toward the end of the year, so he's speaking in future terms because that's where we plan to make it."

Zu expressed that he was someone who prioritized and protected his peace and relationship without paying heed to internet speculations. However, he said the media can sometimes "tarnish beautiful dynamics". He clarified:

"August is my boyfriend, and we're happy with each other, simple...But I can see how being quiet, and trying to protect something of value to you, can allow some people to spin the narrative and create a bunch of different scenarios which aren't true."

Zu further shared:

"Aug gives me a GREAT life, & I'm thankful. What yall don't know is, that I run this relationship...I call the shots, August just hows up and supports me in whatever I want to do. He supports my dream, He IS A DREAM!"

Despite Zu's post, many continued to call August a "predator" and claimed Zu was groomed. August, whose birthday is on September 3, wrote elsewhere that he was done with the internet's allegations, adding he did not take their words seriously. August wrote:

"I'll just leave yall with… ZU IS A HILL, IM DYING ON. Period!"

August said nobody had the right to be concerned or mad about someone else's relationship. The singer has since reposted several tweets defending his romance with Zu.
