Kenneth Copeland, aka Lil Woody, claimed that he saw escaped inmate Derrick Groves in an Atlanta club before his arrest on October 8, 2025. For those uninformed, Groves was one of the 10 inmates who broke out of a New Orleans prison on May 16, 2025. Groves, a convicted murderer, was the last of the 10 inmates to be found and arrested.On October 10, 2025, X account @mymixtapez posted a clip of Lil Woody claiming that he saw Derrick Groves at a club in Atlanta before his arrest. Lil Woody, who made headlines for his testimony during the YSL RICO trial with rapper Young Thug, claimed that he was at the club with a friend when they saw Groves.Woody jokingly added that he should have walked up to Groves and told him to turn himself in for a share of the reward, saying:"Me and my buddy was in the club with him... And y'all know I placed him like, 'That's the n***a that escaped from the New Orleans prison right there.' Then he like, 'Nah that ain't him...' I'll be damned when I wake up and that is him...Didn't they have like a $50,000 reward for this n***a? Man I would have told him, 'Look, I'll put $10,000 in your account, you need to go turn yourself in cause you in the club just chilling.'"Derrick Groves, aged 28, was reportedly extradited to Louisiana after being captured in Atlanta. Groves agreed to the extradition after a hearing on October 9, telling the judge, “I want to return where I’m from.” According to a Facebook post from the Louisiana State Police on October 10, he was transported from Atlanta to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was flown to a secure correctional facility by helicopter."All 10 of the Orleans Parish escapees are back in Louisiana! Inmate Antoine Massey was captured in Hollygrove, New Orleans, in late June.In a press conference on October 8, Louisiana State Police Superintendent Robert Hodges stated that the police suspected Derrick Groves traveled to Atlanta following the escape and had traced him to a particular address in the city through "information gathered via multiple search warrants and other investigative means." Along with U.S. Marshals and the SWAT team, police broke into the residence and found Derrick Groves in the crawlspace. They took him into custody after what they described as a "brief standoff." So he's got a lot of trouble and a lot of things to answer to, to both the state of Louisiana and the state of Georgia," she added.According to CNN, Derrick Groves was charged with "two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder" after he shot and killed two men during Mardi Gras in 2018. He could be facing a life sentence, and was awaiting sentencing when he made his escape from the New Orleans prison in May 2025.
