Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr wrote the screenplay for Top Gun, which is directed by Tony Scott.

Top Gun was released theatrically on 16 May 1986. The film's producers are Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson. It was distributed by Paramount Pictures.

The film centered around Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise, as he is given a chance to train at the US Navy’s Fighter Weapon School, also known as Top Gun, along with his best friend Nick Bradshaw, known as Goose.

Principal Photography took place in Oceanside, California, and the aircraft maneuvering scenes were shot at Nevada’s Naval Air Station Fallon. The movie made Tom Cruise (pictured above) a global movie star.

In 2010, Paramount Pictures announced plans for a Top Gun sequel. Cruise was asked to return, along with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott. Craig began writing the screenplay in 2012, but the project was put on hold when Scott died later that year. Later, the film was dedicated to Scott's memory.

However, after Kosinski was hired to direct, production resumed in 2017. Principal photography, which included the use of IMAX-certified 6K full-frame cameras, occurred in California, Washington, and Maryland from May 2018 to April 2019. The initial release date of July 12, 2019, was pushed back several times due to the complicated action scenes and the coronavirus pandemic. Several streaming companies attempted to purchase the streaming service during the pandemic.

However, all offers were turned down by Cruise, who insisted the film be released exclusively in theatres. The film's preliminary production began on May 30, 2018, in San Diego, California. The crew shot aerial footage at Naval Air Station Fallon. Principal photography in California was scheduled to continue until April 15, 2019, in San Diego, Lemoore, China Lake, Chico, and Lake Tahoe. Seattle, Washington, and Patuxent River, Maryland.

Paramount Pictures contacted the Regos in 1985, searching for a beach cottage for a film set. In June, Paramount rented the house (along with the property at 112 First Street) for two weeks. The crew prepared the property's perimeter by removing parking and street signs and sanding the curbs.

The film propelled Tom Cruise on the road to stardom, and the iconic scene of Maverick riding his motorcycle down Oceanside's palm-lined Pacific Street is a local favorite. For Oceansiders, some of the most memorable scenes from the film "Top Gun" were filmed at the Victorian cottage that served as the home of Cruise's love interest, Charlie, portrayed by Kelly McGillis.

After that, it would be known as Oceanside's "Top Gun" house. Fans of the film flocked from all over the world to have their pictures taken in front of the iconic house and on the porch.
