Slater & Gabriel

WWE has been forever popular with the masses, being a favourite with fans of all ages. It has gone through various transitions over the years, depending on the era and popularity of the stars. In 2008, WWE reverted from TV-14 to TV-PG. They became a more family oriented program, and the amount of blood, obscene language, and sexual content telecasted was reduced dramatically. This led to the PG Era, which lasted from 2008 to 2013.Let us now look at the 10 most successful and loved/hated tag teams of the PG Era#11 Honourable Mention- The Nexus The original NexusThe Nexus wasn’t exactly a tag team, but a heel stable which was formed in 2010. The group consisted of 8 members, and they were all rookies from NXT Season 1, led by Wade Barrett.Their main goal was to obtain central contracts for all the 8 participants of NXT, except for Wade Barrett, who has already been provided with a contract for winning NXT Season 1. The group caused chaos every week on Raw, and especially made life hell for Cena, who quite ironically, was the one responsible for the demise of the original Nexus. As a group they won the WWE Tag Team Championship thrice.

#10 Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater

Slater & Gabriel

Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel, both bright talents and products of NXT Season 1, have the unique distinction of being WWE Tag Team Champions while first being a part of The Nexus and then The Corre. Both well acquainted with the nuances of the art of wrestling, they were one of the best heel tag teams of the PG Era.

They won their first Championship in 2010 after Wade Barrett, the then leader of Nexus, ordered David Otunga to lie down so that he could be pinned and the title could be taken off John Cena. At that time John Cena and David Otunga were the Champions.

As a part of the Corre, they won their second Championship in 2011, beating Santino Marella and Vladamir Kozlov at the Elimination Chamber PPV. However, they lost the titles to John Cena and The Miz the following night on Raw.

They immediately invoked their rematch clause and defeated John Cena and The Miz, becoming three time WWE Tag Team Champions.

#9 Air Boom

Air Boom

Air Boom was an exciting high flying tag team formed in 2011, consisting of Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne. Both daredevils who weren’t afraid of taking risks, they were popular among the fans for their amazing maneuvers.

On Raw, they defeated Otunga and McGillicutty to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions. Their reign lasted for a total 146 days.

Their reign was cut short when Evan Bourne was suspended by WWE for 30 days for violating their Wellness Policy. He came back after a month and they feuded with Primo and Epico.

They lost their titles to Primo and Epico at a house show. Even though they had a rematch, they failed to win the Championship back.

The team was disbanded when Evan Bourne was suspended for a second time for violating the Wellness Policy. Kofi Kingston went on to form a team with R-Truth and regain the Championship.

#8 D- Generation X

DX

Probably the one tag team that WWE fans of all ages know is D-Generation X. One of the mainstay of Attitude Era, they were responsible for making Attitude Era so popular. With no respect for WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and his family, they constantly feuded with him, resulting in many memorable matches in the Attitude Era.

They were also one of the most loved teams of the PG Era. Consisting of The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels and The Cerebral Assassin Triple-H, they won the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship from JeriShow at the TLC PPV in 2009, their first tag team championship reign as a tag team.

It’s not the stats and numbers that matter. Even though they won the Tag Team Championship only once, they will go down in history as one of the most popular and loved teams.

Loved by fans and critics alike for their funny antics and fireworks in the ring, DX got into one of the most intense rivalries in the early part of the PG Era with JeriShow.

#7 JeriShow

Jeri-Show

JeriShow was a tag team consisting of experienced in-ring veterans Chris Jericho and Big Show. They made their debut in July 2009 at Night of Champions PPV, when Jericho named Show as his tag team partner in his title defense against Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, members of the Legacy. His former tag team partner Edge was injured.

Jericho was the brains and Big Show was the brawn of the team. Being a heel tag team, they got into constant feuds with other teams, and managed to win their matches somehow, by hook or by crook.

Probably their most memorable feud was against DX, after a non-title loss on Raw.

JeriShow continued their feud with DX at TLC 2009. Their reign as Champions for 140 days came to an end on that day, as DX won the match. They won the Slammy Award for Tag Team of the Year for 2009.

#6 Ted DiBiase Jr and Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase Jr

Both multi-generation superstars who were immensely talented, Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase were members of a heel faction known as The Legacy, which was led by none other than the Viper Randy Orton, a third generation superstar himself.

They were a heel tag team who believed thought that they were superior to the other wrestlers as they belonged to wrestling families.

They won their first Championship together in 2008, when Cody Rhodes, the then Tag Team Champion, turned on his partner Hardcore Holly to side with Ted DiBiase. He was the mystery partner of DiBiase, and they fought against Holly in a hardcore match and emerged victorious.

Despite having so much of talent, they couldn’t emulate their fathers in the ring. DiBiase said goodbye to WWE in 2013, and Cody Rhodes performs as Stardust now.

#5 John Morrison and The Miz

The Awesome One & The Shaman of Sexy

The team of John Morrison and The Miz was probably the most talented team in the early phase of the PG Era. Miz being the great talker he is, and John Morrison leaving everyone gawking at his spell-binding finisher Starship Pain, they were a complete package as a team.

On the November 16, 2007 episode of Raw, they teamed up together to take on the then WWE Tag Team Champions Matt Hardy and MVP. They won the match after MVP turned on Hardy. Thus began their reign as Tag Team Champions.

They were even given their own show, The Dirt Sheet. At the Great American Bash, they lost their titles to Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins in a fatal four way tag team match.

In 2008, they won the Slammy Award for Best Tag Team of the Year. At a house show in Ontario, they won the World Tag Team Championship for the first time, defeating Kofi Kingston and CM Punk.

The team split in April 2009, after the Miz was drafted to Raw and Morrison was drafted to Smackdown.

#4 Team Hell No

Kane & Daniel Bryan

Undoubtedly the most popular team on the list, Team Hell No had the unlikeliest of pairings in the ‘goat face’ Daniel Bryan and the Big Red Machine Kane.

They defeated Kofi Kingston and R-Truth to become the WWE Tag Team Champions in September 2012. Their reign lasted for a total of 245 days.

Originally portrayed as bitter enemies, they were made to attend anger management classes together by the then General Manager of Raw, AJ Lee. They went on to become the WWE Tag Team Champions, much to their surprise and reluctance.

Their transition from a dysfunctional heel team to a much loved face tag team was a heart-warming story. The fans were always behind them and enjoyed them for their constant bickering.

#3 The Usos

Jimmy & Jey – The Usos

Being one of the youngest and brightest tag teams currently in the roster, The Usos is a tag team consisting of twin brothers Jimmy and Jey Uso, the sons of WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi and the nephews of the Rock. They joined WWE in 2010 and since then have won the WWE Tag Team Championships twice.

Despite not winning a title in the PG Era, the Usos are still ranked so high in the list because of their popularity among the fans. Known to be one of the most hardworking tag teams in the roster, they finally got their taste of gold when they defeated the New Age Outlaws to win their first Championship.

Their reign lasted for 202 days, and they had to lose their titles to Goldust and Stardust at Night of Champions PPV in 2014. One of their most memorable moments was when they got to dance with their father, Rikishi, who had come as one of the mystery opponents of Heath Slater during the ‘Blast from the Past’ segment.

#2 The Colons

Carlito & Primo

Only a few of the current fans might remember the Colons, but during the early part of the PG Era, the Colons were a force to reckon with.

The Colons was a team consisting of real life brothers Carlito and Primo, formed in 2008. They were the first ever Unified WWE Tag Team Champions. They held the WWE Tag Team Championship and World Tag Team Championship at the same time.

In their debut match on Smackdown, they went on to defeat then WWE Tag Team Champions Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. This win gave them a title opportunity, and two weeks later they were successful in winning the titles from Ryder and Hawkins.

At Wrestlemania XXV, the Colons went on to defeat the World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz, unifying both the titles. They held the Tag Team Championship for a total of 280 days, the most by any team in the PG Era.

#1 The Hart Dynasty

The hart Dynasty in all its glory

Undoubtedly, The Hart Dynasty deserves to top this list. The most talented and gifted team on this list without any question, The Hart Dynasty, consisting of Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith, managed by Natalya, made the tag team division very proud with their technical expertise. Belonging to the famous Hart Family, they trained in the Hart family dungeon, which made them the most technically superior tag team in recent times.

On Raw, they went on the win the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship from ShowMiz.

The World Tag Team Championship was retired on the August 16 show of Raw, making them the final Champions to hold the titles. On the very same night, they were presented with the new WWE Tag Team Championship belts by Bret Hart.

The team tops this list solely on the basis of their technical expertise and the hard work that they had put in to become Tag Team Champions and achieve their dreams, which they did. No other team had as much of team work and coordination as them.
