5 best last minute goals in club football

#2 Liverpool vs Arsenal, 26 May 1989 First Division

Having led the First Division for majority of the season, Arsenal saw a dip in form and in the run-up to the Anfield match against Liverpool they lost to Derby County and drew with Wimbledon. On the other hand, Liverpool were on an unbeaten run since the start of the New Year and in the run-up to the game, Liverpool won twice, 2-0 against QPR and 5-1 against West Ham.

Arsenal who led Liverpool by 15 points at a certain stage of the First Division, were now behind Liverpool with one game to play. An Arsenal win with 2 or more goals would result in Arsenal winning the Division with superior goal difference.

The first half of the game saw chances falling to both the teams, but neither of them were able to find the back of the net. Arsenal started the second half of the game with even more passion and determination, and they were rewarded 7 minutes into the second half. Alan Smith scored a goal on 52nd minute mark. Arsenal started the match with a 5-4-1 formation, but with only 14 minutes left to play, the formation was tweaked to a more attacking 4-4-2.

Three minutes of injury time was added on at the end of 90 minutes and in the final 25 seconds of added time, Michael Thomas evaded Steve Nicol (Liverpool defender)and chipped the ball over Liverpool keeper, Bruce Grobbelaar. Michael Thomas's last minute goal won Arsenal the title.
