Cena was given the responsibility and did his bit to keep the fans engaged. However, his storied career has had some bad spells as well. Some defeats were hard to swallow for the hustle, loyalty and respect superstar. Cena hardly gets a taste of downfall, but there were some regretful ones in his journey so far. Here is a recall of matches that can be regarded as huge losses in Cena’s career.

#1 REST IN PEACE!!!!

If rumors are to be believed, Cena vs Taker was in the pipeline for the next WrestleMania. However, the shoulder injury will keep the superhero of WWE out of action. Nevertheless, the two legends of the game have battled it out before.

In 2004, when SmackDown was as good a show as Raw, Cena and Taker went head to head in the squared circle.

The match was a nail-biting affair. Cena’s graph was rising and it could’ve had a massive boost until the Deadman delivered a tombstone piledriver to register a victory. At that point, Cena was young, and to beat the icon was his ultimate goal. However, he ended up on the losing side, courtesy a vicious move from The Phenom.

#2 The Goat shocks Cena

Daniel Bryan was indeed more than a B+. He certainly was gaining momentum after his first injury only to be stopped in his tracks by another. Despite these mishaps in his short career at top level, Bryan has conquered a lot including, a win over John Cena.

At Summerslam 2013, Bryan was at his ruthless best. His swift movements in the ring saw Cena bite the dust. Bryan showed himself to be the best in the business, ready to take on any challenge, even John Cena.

The Cenation fans were looking for an extended title reign as their dreams were shattered. Bryan’s running knee brought the curtains down on the game and he ended as the champion.

#3 Once in a lifetime

The first match between Cena and The Rock was epic. Not only the match, but the entire build up to it was jaw dropping. The two representatives of two different eras did whatever it took as part of the mind games.

The WresleMania defeat to The Rock was one of Cena’s lowest points for multiple reasons, both personal and professional. More importantly, the fans turned their back on him as they were in full support of the Brahma Bull.

Cena looked different throughout that spell. He looked ordinary and was perhaps in need of a break. There was no fan support as his image took a blow.

#4 Pop-Up powerbombed

The United States title challenge was an interesting storyline on Raw last year. The best part about it was the arrival of NXT Champion, Kevin Owens.

The bad guy attitude had everyone wondering about this guy. A pay per view match between the two was just the beginning of the story. Arguably the best match of 2015 saw Cena and Owens lock horns.

From super counters to eye-catching maneuvers, that match had it all. For Cena fans, the match ended in disappointment as the world witnessed one of the biggest upset of the year. Owens did the unthinkable as he pinned Cena in his very first match.

#5 Suplex City

Undoubtedly the worst day of John Cena’s WWE career, both physically and mentally. A title match involving John Cena was never this one sided. And why not, it featured “The Beast” Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar was untouched throughout as he took Cena to Suplex City. A total of 16 suplexes caused internal bleeding to Cena. He was helpless and hopeless at the same time with Lesnar delivering an F-5 to win the title.

On the other hand, Cena had no clue of how this Paul Heyman guy was so dominant. Since then, the leader of Cenation has failed to win the WWE title.

At this point of time, fans are hoping for a speedy recovery as Cena serves his time out due to injury and is likely to miss WrestleMania
