5 storylines that WWE needs to pursue

The Wyatt Family has found new life since adding Braun Strowman.

WWE’s creative process frequently draws criticism.Wrestling fans across the globe bat around ideas constantly for how to improve WWE’s product, whether on podcasts, social media or just among friends. Some ideas come up frequently or are replays from the past, while others are more off-the-wall and original. Here’s a list of five story ideas that could freshen up WWE programming right now and spark other concepts that could last the company for years to come. Further, these ideas would rejuvenate the product for today’s fans and potentially boost television ratings that have been an issue of late.

#1 Wyatts vs. Authority

The Wyatt Family has found new life since adding Braun Strowman.

This idea would create new possibilities while also closing one of the most gaping logic holes in the WWE Universe. There is no good reason why someone who seems to thrive on anarchy and playing by his own rules would want to work with the establishment’s authority figures, yet that frequently happens with Bray Wyatt and his followers.

This has to stop.

Instead, “The Eater of Worlds” should lead a charge against The Authority, winning championships and other honors for no reason other than control of the ensuing chaos. Then, we could get uncomfortable alliances as former enemies join forces to stop the evil cult led by Bray.

#2 Vince steps in

Angry Vince has often been the best Vince.

Its been no secret that WWEs television ratings have been down at times recently. So wouldnt it make sense that the actual boss of the company, Vince McMahon, would be upset with that and want to step in to correct it?

This could manifest itself in several ways, from Vince creating a stable to challenge Triple H, Stephanie and The Authority to the man himself taking charge of the show to him simply placing his own representative within The Authority to right the ship. All of these options provide plenty of chances to shake up the recent pattern, though.

#3 Belt Rankings

John Cena climbed an actual ladder to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

This idea is far from unique, as lots of sports have rankings to help determine their champion. And while WWE certainly has a pecking order, there is no published list for who’s in line for which belts.

This concept would be fun for the fans, but more importantly, it would serve as a crutch of sorts for the creative team, and not in a bad way. It has to be difficult to come up with five hours of meaningful programming a week with several continuous feuds and stories going on at once. With this, matches could be held simply because the No. 5 contender for the U.S. Title needs to face the No. 4 guy, and the story could develop from there.

#4 Another brand split

The Smackdown roster forms after a past brand draft.

This has clearly been done before, but it would seem WWE programming is ripe for another brand split. While Smackdown is rarely more than a recap show from Raw with a couple rematches and a heel vs. face multi-man tag match, there are several superstars that are rarely or never seen on television.

With split brands, all hands would be needed in the ring, and both shows could be more interesting. This time around, there’d be no need for separate pay-per-views, and that would add to the intrigue as each roster competed to bring belts back to their show.

#5 Sheild Reunion

The Shield was a dominant and popular group before it split.

Not a month goes by without someone mentioning the potential for The Shield to reunite. Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were one of the most exciting and dominant stables in years when they debuted, and after their face turn, they provided the last real, sustained opposition to The Authority.

They were successful in that role, and the current story is finally twisting to a point where the three joining forces once more would make a little sense. The only hurdle that remains, and it’s a large one, is that the group broke up because Rollins stabbed the other two in the back to join The Authority.
