5 Things WWE did wrong in 2015

NXT and main roster are light years apart

WWE hid the positives and magnified the negatives2015 was not a great year for WWE, period. They faced some big problems throughout the year. While some of these problems were unfortunate, others poked up due to WWE’s actions. The horrible booking decisions that WWE executed in 2015 falls right into the second category. Creatively, WWE did not give much to remember in 2015 apart from few gems here and there. Thus, if we look back, 2015 was a roller coaster ride for WWE with many lows and a few highs. You are likely to remember the highs of 2015, so we are going to concentrate on the opposite part in this list. Here are five things that WWE did wrong in 2015.

#5 The Divas Revolution

NXT and main roster are light years apart

The Women’ wrestling is flourishing in NXT. Simple storylines, the smaller crowds, and lack of politics: all contributed to this success. WWE tried to implement the same into a larger scale by sparking off a Divas revolution in the main roster.

Now, down in NXT, we have the Women’s title, and in the main roster, we have the Divas title. You see where I am going.

While the NXT crowd had the capability to digest long matches between the women through long exposure, the main roster fans had a habit of seeing shot eye candy bouts. WWE forgot this when they booked a string of talented divas and called the whole storyline ‘Divas Revolution’.

There was no clear-cut direction, nor time to pull off great matches. The whole concept felt like paper on the cracks and it did not produce anything memorable.

#4 Sting losing on his debut

Should have won on his debut

After all those years of waiting, Sting finally made his WWE debut in 2015. He went up against Triple H at WrestleMania and it had all the ingredients of a classic match. In fact, it was a memorable outing.

The interferences from D-Generation X and the New World Orders were nostalgic. However, the ending was polarizing. Sting lost, and it felt like Vince McMahon was rubbing his ego happily.

The debut loss of Sting was the final nail in the coffin of WCW. A win for Sting, on the other hand, would have made the Seth Rollins vs. Sting match at Night of Champions more credible.

I have no complaints about Rollins defeating Sting because it was the right decision; but Triple H getting one over Sting probably wasn’t the right path to go.

#3 The King of the Ring tournament

Worthless king

The King of the Ring tournament is prestigious. A handful of legendary names have won it, and it gave us some memorable moments including the Austin 3:16 promo.

However, in 2015, the tournament was nothing more than a joke. WWE finished the entire King of the Ring tournament in two days 48 hours, in case it is hard to digest.

Barrett eventually won the tournament, but it was not a big deal. He entered into a feud with R-Truth and it messed up the whole purpose of the crown. Barrett never got the booking that supported his win in the tournament and it became a complete misuse of opportunity from WWE’s side.

Even if WWE brings back the tournament in 2016, fans are unlikely to take it seriously.

#2 Character of Roman Reigns

Needed different booking

Roman Reigns has the talent to be the next big thing in WWE.

He cannot be the next John Cena, but he can be Roman Reigns, an original. WWE forgot this fact. They tried to book Reigns as a witty talker who got the job done inside the ring instead of booking him as a vicious silent warrior.

I mean, does Brock Lesnar have to talk? Yes, there is Paul Heyman but if we take away Heyman from the equation, Lesnar could still draw without uttering a word.

WWE should have done the same with Reigns. Instead, they exposed his weakness and this simply overshadowed his strengths. Reigns, is perhaps, the most improved superstars in 2015, but we are simply talking about how bad his promo skills are.

Who is to blame?

#1 Bringing in Daniel Bryan at Royal Rumble

His return ruined Roman REigns

The 2015 edition of Royal Rumble was supposed to be a career changer for Roman Reigns. It was his opportunity to steal the limelight and set up a classic against Brock Lesnar for WrestleMania 31.

The plot was perfect until WWE decided to bring in Daniel Bryan into the Royal Rumble match. It was Bryan’s big return after a long layoff and despite the absence; he was popular among the fans.

WWE Universe shifted their support towards Bryan and all of a sudden, they abandoned Reigns. The fans tagged Reigns as the next John Cena, and even though he won the Rumble, he embraced a chorus of jeers.

What would have happened if WWE had delayed the return of Bryan? Just think.
