5 WWE stars who were the best backstage politicians/manipulators

Throughout time, there have been numerous huge stars within the WWE. However, a lot of these stars choose to use their immense star power to try and manipulate things backstage to get what they want.Being close friends with the boss, being a huge star, or having incredible persuasive tactics are many aspects that help to manipulate situations. Many of WWE’s biggest stars have used backstage politics to appease their own requests.Let’s take a look now at five of the best backstage politicians/manipulators to ever step foot inside a WWE ring.

#1 Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman is slightly different from the other backstage politicians on the list. All the others use their immense star power or close friendships with the boss to get what they want. However Heyman instead used his smart devious business techniques and persuasive manner to manipulate situations.

One look at the “Ladies and gentlemen my name is Paul Heyman” DVD and you know he was a smart backstage manipulator while many referred to him as untrustworthy. But Heymans business sense is incredible and he used this to manipulate circumstances.

#2 John Cena

The extent to which Cena uses his large star power to get what he wants backstage is heavily debated. Many have suggested that Cena is afraid of losing his spot on top and uses backstage politics to get what he wants.

Jericho and Edge spoke once about The Nexus and how Cena chose to go over despite being told that was a terrible decision. Although they also reported that Cena did acknowledge his mistake afterwards. So, it’s possible that Cena just has a bad business sense at times which is surprising after being a top guy all these years in the WWE.

#3 Hulk Hogan

It’s well known among many that Hulk Hogan is commonly regarded as selfish backstage who used his huge star power to manipulate things to get his own way. Most acknowledge that Hogan only cared about Hogan and wouldn’t do anything that would make Hogan look bad.

One example came at Summerslam when Hogan was scheduled to lose to Shawn Michaels. But Hogan manipulated things and got his own way so now he was going to go. As a result Michaels took the match as a joke and Hogan was gone soon after.

#4 Shawn Michaels

Another star who was notoriously known as a backstage manipulator was the heartbreak kid himself, Shawn Michaels. However Shawn’s devious tactics were generally before he returned, during his first run when he was acknowledged for being cocky and arrogant.

Being close friends with the boss is obviously one way to get what. So close that homosexual rumours appear, although I believe those claims were pretty ridiculous. But still it remains true that Shawn was close to Vince McMahon which allowed him to get his own way and manipulate decisions backstage.

#5 Triple H

What possibly gives you more power than just being close friends with the boss, maybe marrying his daughter and in turn becoming the boss’s son in law. Not trying to say that Triple H doesn’t deserve the position he has (because one look at NXT shows he knows what’s best for business) but the power he has attained is still partly due to his relationship with Stephanie McMahon.

HHH is also known for manipulating things and is now primed to one day take over from Vince, when he finally realizes he lost touch and steps aside.
