5 WWE superstars who should win the U.S. title

Cesaro has been a fan favorite in recent months.

John Cena has brought a lot to the table as U.S. champion.John Cena has certainly boosted the prestige of WWEs United States Championship. Before he won it from Rusev, it had become easily the companys third-tier belt for mens singles competitors, and there was very little interest in U.S. title race. Now, through his U.S. Championship Open Challenges, Cena has turned that belt into a main attraction on Raw and pay-per-views, but every good thing must come to an end. After all, what good would it do for a veteran to take the time he has to boost a belt if that didnt translate into a push for someone else?We list five guys who would be ideal to get that well deserved push.

#1 Cesaro

Cesaro has been a fan favorite in recent months.

Cesaro has stalled after a red-hot summer run that saw him go from disconnected mid-carder or tag specialist to a legit star in the WWE.

But one of the early moments during that stretch came when he took Cena to the limit during an Open Challenge match. Rumor has it that Cena is Cesaro’s biggest fan behind the curtain, and if that’s the case, the “Swiss Superman” would be an ideal candidate to take the belt and have a credible run with it. He’s one of the strongest men on the roster with a complete move set, that will help him defend against anyone that comes his way.

#2 Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns’ year started hot and continues to simmer.

Something has to be done with Roman Reigns. His current feud with Bray Wyatt has been phenomenal, but he needs something to take his career to the next level.

WWE may have pushed him too quickly after an injury in late 2014, that resulted in a Royal Rumble victory and a Wrestlemania main event appearance in the first quarter of 2015, but that’s not his fault. If Reigns were to come out and dominate Cena for the U.S. title, either as a face or a heel, that could be the type of “reset button” that he needs to get proper fan response, which has been on a steady rise.

#3 Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston and the New Day have been one of the highlights of recent WWE programming.

The work Kofi Kingston and the other New Day members are putting in has been outstanding. They’ve gone from a groan-inducing trio to the strongest faction in the company, and they find ways to entertain while maintaining heel status.

Xavier Woods and Big E have both gotten U.S. title shots and came up short; now it’s Kofi’s turn. He’s far from a young buck on the roster, but it would be a nice reward to hang some more gold on his waist, and his unique style would make for interesting matchups.

#4 Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn has fought for the U.S. title before.

Few reactions could match the crowd response Sami Zayn got earlier this year when he came up from NXT to accept an Open Challenge from Cena.

He fought valiantly, but an injury kept him from reaching his true potential and has shelved him on the sidelines ever since. Zayn is a guy that just flat out connects with the fans like only some guys can, and that would make him an incredible choice. If healthy, he is the best option to have a run with the title.

It would also be a refreshing change for a fan favorite to simply get a title early without having to go through Creative Purgatory first.

#5 Finn Balor

Finn Balor’s demon persona has been very well-received in NXT action.

Balor is one of those guys whose fan reaction would be worth giving him the U.S. title on its own. If he were to make his demon entrance in a Raw arena to accept Cena’s challenge, the fans would make it clear that he was an acceptable choice to succeed Cena as champ.

His age is another reason to put a strap on him early. Even though Balor is relatively new to WWE or NXT competition, he’s already 34. That means this is the right time for the writers to capitalize on his popularity worldwide is shorter than with other stars, and they need to get as much of that window as possible.
