Khali wasn’t impressive as a World Champion

In spite of the obvious indicators, WWE doesn't seem to drop the ball on Reigns The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is the most highly regarded championship the WWE has and is a unification of the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship. Well, before it came to fruition, WWE did hold both these top tier titles in high regard albeit not equally. The two were still something that one would have to earn in their careers despite them not being of equal stature.Over the years, there have been superstars who deserved it – many actually – but there have been many who did not. Not because they weren’t talented performers per se in their own right but they just were not over as characters. Here are the 5 champions who were least over with the fans-

#1 The Great Khali

Khali wasn’t impressive as a World Champion

On an unfortunate night in 2007, Edge vacated his World heavyweight Champion and the successor was to be decided from a Battle Royal match and pray who won? The Great Khali. A man who couldn’t even walk straight or be called a wrestler, a person whose move set was entirely one-dimensional became the World heavyweight Champion.

This couldn’t have been more tragicomic than it was and neither were the fans too happy about it. Khali eventually just couldn’t become a great champion.

#2 Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio has struggled to make the WWE audience care

The problem that plagues Sheamus is something similar that plagues his League of Nations teammate Alberto Del Rio.

A huge star in Mexico, the cultural transition to WWE has been somewhat a very wanting affair. His initial phase was marred by an overly used ‘Destiny’ word and a gimmick that just would not get over. He wasn’t really the heel you would pay to watch, he was the heel who would definitely make you change the channel.

He won the WWE Championship from CM Punk in Hell In A Cell 2011 and lost it fortunately at Survivor Series in the same year.

#3 Sheamus

Sheamus’ character needs some better writing

Sheamus has always been better as a heel and twice when he won the biggest prize in sports entertainment, he was a heel but WWE has never, ever really fully invested itself in his character, and truly neither has the audience.

Sheamus becoming champion recently proved to the audience that there were worse options than Roman Reigns as champion. Towards the end of his reign, though, he did something great and was instrumental in getting Reigns over.

But this does not take away from the fact that whenever Sheamus was a Champion, he was an interesting character yet his reigns haven’t been memorable at all. Despite the guy being great in the ring and having all the signs of becoming someone great, he has never really been written well.

#4 Jack Swagger

Swagger was just not ready to be champion

The only wrong deed with Swagger’s victory by cashing in his Money in The Bank contract to become World Heavyweight Champion was that he was not ready.

The audience was just not ready too, actually, in spite of the early signs of being a young heel in the making. He was annoying but there was something quite hopeful about his character until they ruined it by bestowing upon him the worst experiment possible and making him a champion so early.

Since then, none of his championship victories have mattered. Since then, he hasn’t been used to that stature.

#5 Roman Reigns

Reigns is still not over as WWE wants him to be

Roman Reigns, in an incredible set of events, actually managed to get over in his second title reign. He also actually managed to undo that towards the build-up to the Royal Rumble and in the end, was still booed this year.

His first reign was also marred that stemmed from a sense of unhappiness amongst fans. Despite being a great performer and improving leaps and bounds since his Shield days, many fans loathed the fact that he was the chosen one backstage and how predictable his entire journey was.

Given the current scenario, if he actually does win at Wrestlemania, he will be booed out of the arena.
