Five of the best goals from the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League season

It was ultimately Real Madrid who emerged victorious at the end of long yet scintillating season after they miraculously came back down from 0-1 to win their tenth UEFA Champions League title with a score line of 4-1. This season has been a spectator to quite a few brilliant goals, goals that left the fans in awe and surprise. In this slideshow, we take a look at five of the best goals from the 2013/14 campaign:

#5 Patrice Evra against Bayern Munich

Both Patrice Evra and Manchester United didn’t have a lot to celebrate for this season; however, his left-foot pile-driver-esque goal during the Red Devil’s Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie against Bayern Munich is something the French full back will always cherish.

Running from deep, Evra connected a misplaced cross in the best way possible, striking it so hard that Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Manuel Neur was left stunned.

#4 Zlatan Ibrahimovic against Anderlecht

With goals like these, Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will make you wonder if physics really has a say in the game or not. Playing against Anderlecht, the Swedesh striker launched a shot that was clocked at 116 kilometers per hour, something goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski would be grateful he nearly avoided.

The best part of the goal was the Zlatan wrapped up his hat-trick with it, three of them in a matter of only 18 minutes.

Clearly Zlatan has no limits.

#3 Diego Ribas against Barcelona

Atletico Madrid opened their goal tally against Barcelona in their first leg encounter through a 30-yard screamer Diego, and boy, was that some goal.

After coming on as a replacement to injured Diego Costa, Diego unleashed a shot that looked unstoppable. Guarding the net, Barcelona goalkeeper Pinto did try his best to stop that ball, but at the end of the day, when you have a shot like that coming towards you, you absolutely have no chance.

#2 Klaas-Jan Huntelaar against Real Madrid

You would think after seeing your side concede six goals at home, there is anything interesting left to watch. However, that was not the case when Schalke’s Dutch hitman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar came up with a strike that will probably be remembered for a long time.

Strolling outside the penalty box, Huntelaar released a 25-yard stunning volley that went past Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas who most definitely didn’t see it coming.

#1 Vladimir Weiss against Paris Saint-Germain

My favourite among the lot, Olympiacos winger Vladimir Weiss made a joke out of Paris Saint-Germain’s defensive line-up with this individual moment of brilliance.

Nutmegging Marquinhos whom PSG had bought for $42 million in the last transfer window, Weiss went onto dribble past Thiago Silva, who is often regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world and finally slotting the ball home past goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.
