AJ Lee returned to the WWE last weeks on the heels of the #GiveDivasAChance trend and received one of the biggest pops of the night.The Wrestlemania picture for the Divas match looked more like an opportunity for Paige to win the title at Wrestlemania but with AJ’s return, things seem to have taken a different turn. On last RAW, it was announced that AJ would be teaming up with her ‘frenemy’ Paige to take on the Bellas at ‘The Showacse of the Immortals’. Lee has had quite a journey towards Wrestlemania 31.Here’s how the road has turned out to be-
#1 Journey since 2014
AJ Lee got engaged and then married to CM Punk. This shouldn’t be a dominating factor when defining the career of one of the most over performers in the WWE but it did have an impact. Punk left WWE and that led to ‘CM Punk’ chants on various occasions. The audience still continues to chant her husband’s name at her during each and mostly every appearance that she makes.
Due to this fact, rumors surfaced that she’s pregnant or that she’s leaving WWE soon.
But 2014 was the year AJ’s time as the longest reigning Divas Champion was up as Paige took that title away from her. She returned two months to a thunderous reaction to win the title back. She had a third reign which was ended partly because a ‘kiss of death’ by Brie Bella.
2014 has been quite controversial.
#2 Momentum heading into Wrestlemania 31
AJ Lee was rendered injured towards the end of 2014. She was away to nurse a nagging neck injury suffered at Summerslam. She returned last week to an overwhelmingly postive reaction to save paige from an assault by the Bella twins.
Before all of this, she took to twitter to give a piece of her mind to Stephanie McMahon and voiced her opinion on the gender inequality issues in the WWE.She created quite a storm and it was welcomed by fans .
Her return has only made one realize how much of a positive difference her appearance makes.
#3 What to expect at Wrestlemania 31
The divas match was made official on MOnday Night raw and it was disappointing considering that the championship won’t be defended by Nikki Bella. What is the importance of this match if it’s not for the title? Will it be as irrelevant as last years divas match?
AJ Lee’s return to the scene has only made the diviison more competitive. If given the time The Bellas, Paige and AJ can put on a great match. With some more time, they can actually churn out a good story. For now, it seems AJ and paige will walk away with a victory at Wrestemania.
#4 Immediate aftermath post Wrestlemania 31
It’ll be disappointing if Lee and Paige feud again. It won’t look refreshing for the division. It seems that once Wrestlemania is done, plans will kick off for showcasing the tension between the Bellas and all this might lead to a fatal four way down the line for the Divas Championship.
Expect AJ Lee to continue fighting for the championship, only this time not to win it as often as she did last year.
#5 Future stock leading to Wrestlemania 32
By Wrestlemania 32, it seems AJ’s speech at the Slammy awards may seem highly important. She talked about wanting to see the day when women like Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Emma and Paige get their due and shine.
By next year, Charlotte and Sasha Banks may as well be on the main roster and AJ may be competing against those two to make the division more legit and revitalize it.
