10 shocking backstage facts we learned through CM Punk

Have you watched ‘The Wrestler?’ It is one great movie about a certain Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson, an ageing wrestler and his career. It was lauded by many industry veterans. It gave a very bleak picture of the kind of wear and tear a wrestler’s body goes through, even when professional wrestling is deemed fake.CM Punk’s story is unlike the above stated movie. He left while he was at his peak and one of the popular wrestlers on the roster. Just like that, he decided to walk away from the company earlier this year without giving any explanations whatsoever. But did he actually walk away? After ten long months of absolute silence, CM Punk finally came out in the open as he discussed each and every backstage issue in detail on his friend, Colt Cabana’s podcast show, where he finally revealed why he exited from the WWE. It was a much awaited moment and he gave his point of view in almost 2 hours. He tried to remember everything that he could and spilled the beans on what happened or still goes around backstage in the company. Here are ten things that CM Punk’s interview educated us about.

#10 He didn\'t quit, he was fired

Some have termed him a ‘quitter,’ but he revealed that he was actually fired on his wedding day. After giving his side of the story, it seems that many might see from his point of view, stand in his shoes and realize that there is only so much that one can do when you’re part of such a business.

He said to Vince that he wanted to give up professional wrestling but instead of firing him then and now, Vince suspended Punk.

They continued to give checks to Punk even after he walked out but when their efforts of bringing him back was not working, they stopped sending him any checks.

Punk remained low despite the not getting the money but on his wedding day, the WWE told him that he was fired. His termination letter also had a non- compete clause in UFC as McMahon didn’t want Punk to go there.

That was Punk’s reply to the people who had turned against him. But what’s baffling here is the fact that how WWE can twist stories in order to sustain their image as the protagonist even if it’s at the expense of a superstar that had given so much to the business all these years.

#9 McMahon owes him a lot

31_120_Diary_0401.jpg (642361)

“How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so?” – Charles Bukowski

CM Punk went out on his own terms. he spoke out openly against the people who run things in the company. He did manage to create some trouble for them and this interview is no less than that.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is okay to be a little trouble to such a system.

McMahon on several occasion requested Punk to work on something he didn’t want to.Like going on tours when he was injured or working events or putting the Rock over.Every time McMahon stated that he’ll owe Punk one in the near future. And Punk trusted his word to no avail ever.

McMahon has seen the highs and lows of the business and he has dealt with all of that and has been able to put it behind him. Whether it was the drug scandal, or the Montreal Screwjob, he is still the boss of the business. Punk’s story might just have another implication that McMahon has to deal with.

It is in an era that WWE has started and changed many policies including welfare of their wrestlers and so forth. The statements on money, health, drugs and politics backstage is sure to get many uncomfortable questions put in front of McMahon.

Will he come out with a ‘Punk Screwed Punk’ angle or will he just ask people to move on and go about it without speaking a word?

Let’s wait and watch.

#8 He didn\'t want to face the Undertaker

28546244.jpg (642361)

CM Punk vs The Undertaker was honestly ‘The match’ of Wrestlemania 29. It was a spectacular bout that produced the best of Punk and even though he expectedly lost, it was a very strong showing from the Straight Edge Superstar.

The Undertaker’s Streak extended and Punk’s claim to being one of the top guys became even stronger. But here’s the thing. He didn’t want to face Taker at Wrestlemania.

During the interview, Punk said that didn’t want to face Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 because it had no future security for him. He was going to wrestle a 45-year-old man who turns up once in a year and he wasn’t paid enough money for doing it.

#7 If you\'re not Cena, you\'re another cog in the wheel

Punk_Diary_elevator.jpg (642361)

One of the things that the WWE Universe have despised in recent times and continuously complained is the babyface Cena that has been around in the WWE for over a decade now. He still is the ‘Poster Boy’ of the company and there is no one to fill in his shoes.

At least that is what Vince McMahon thinks about Cena according to Punk. As Punk stated, Vince has always cared about Cena above everyone else and he has been his main priority. Even when Punk had an idea, they would say no that and two days later, Cena would be executing the same thing.

Punk stated as clearly as possible that he’ll never have a working relationship with the WWE .That should put an end to the neverending rumours about his eventual return.

Sure, you can go with the ‘Never Say Never’ attitude but if the WWE doesn’t drastically change it’s backstage behavior, the Cult Of Personality won’t be playing anytime soon and if it does, because WWE has the rights to it, it won’t be CM Punk walking out on the ramp.

#6 WWE will try to convince you with what they want

Batista1-620x350.jpg (620350)

The company can start speculations, just like they started a speculation that CM Punk will return to the company following his exit in january to the first show of the year in Chicago. he didn’t return.

The company will speculate that they were trying to give Batista whatever he wanted and they will start speculations that Batista is not a fan of Bryan just to make fans follow their narrative. Wherein Punk revealed that Batista was happy doing the job to Bryan and Punk states that he openly talked against Batista’s babyface run.

So, the next time you get the reports, you should know that WWE had a huge role in releasing them.

#5 Money can still be a concern

After Tyler Reks came out with his money issues,it gave fans a glimpse into what superstars who are not in the top tier of the WWE face. But CM Punk was a marquee guy and even he was unsatisfied by the money he was getting and his paycheques only shrinked by each passsing year.

He was putting his injured body on the line for the company to make the company more money off his capability to entertain the crowd. All the company or any other capitalist company cares about is the profits.

Punk’s statements come with a lot of weight and credibility given his reputation and that also helps Tyler Reks’ statement earlier.

#4 Triple H\'s infamous reputation has a lot of truth to it

Triple-H-Speaks-His-Mind.jpg (642361)

There is no smoke without fire. Triple H’s shovel, his burial sense and his ego are everything that the fans will surely talk about more after this interview because Punk has nothing flattering to say about this guy.

There is nothing redeeming about Triple H’s reputation with the hardcore fan. Not only did he run away with Punk’s Shield idea, Punk never really get any good vibes from him. All Punk was getting was a match at Wrestlemania with a guy who couldn’t put Punk over in 2011, which was the Chicagoan’s year.

Punk also cited him as the reason for the new guys being subdued and not getting to he main event scene. Hunter, according to Punk, can promise you a lot of things but then fails to keep them.

Punk was told ‘wrestling Triple H is like being in the main event’. Punk says he turned to Triple H and said

"All due respect, I do not need to wrestle you, you need to wrestle me. I do not want to wrestle you. I seriously resent you for not putting me over three years ago when you should have. That would have been best for business but you had to fucking come in and squash it. And then I had to lose to fucking Truth and Miz. It didn't make any business sense then, it doesn't make any business sense now, and I am in a position now where I can tell you that I don't have to nor do I want to wrestle you at Wrestlemania. I don't care if I was supposed to win."

A hardcore fan can totally picture that scenario.

#3 Part-timers worshipped by the management

the-rock.jpg (600332)

Punk has always been vocal about how he doesn’t like the way part-timers are worshipped by the management. They wrestle one day and then leave the next day to return months or years later, but the ones who make it their duty to be present full-time have deal with the brunt of the management. He has many points that ring alarming bells for the hardcore fan.

He said that The Rock is not the draw, Wrestlemania is. When Rock was main-eventing Survivor Series, it didn’t do good business and the management put the blame on R-Truth and The Miz.

The amount of money and time that the part timers take should be invested upon the full time stars who can actually become an asset to the WWE in the near future. If Wrestlemania is good, people will turn in on Monday and if a young star does something interesting, chances are fans might tune in next Monday as well.

That’s how you expand your audience. If so much time and creative materials are wasted on The Rock, who eventually departs, then nobody is going to tune in to watch someone they won’t find the next week. It is that simple.

Also, Punk didn’t like the idea of dropping his championship belt to a part-timer like Rock and wanted to headline WrestleMania alongside Rock and John Cena after he lost it. The latter didn’t happen and added up to the frustrations.

#2 Ryback and Punk didn\'t get along

Ryan+SD+july+19.jpg (642361)

Rybacks gained a lot of momentum recently after his return as a babyface and it seems that he might actually have a breakthrough this time around. But after CM Punk claimed that he was injured severely by Ryback twice which included The Big Guy breaking Punks ribs, many people may begin to dislike him again.

And Punk also calledhim Steroid Guy and many hardcore fans would agree with him and call it like they see it. How does WWE think that someone so stiff can be a top star without injuring any other potential superstar?

To think that Punk might not be the only person injured by this guy or maybe Punk is the only person to speak out like that.

Coming from someone like Punk, who always has something good or nothing bad to speak about young superstars, those are some strong words which will hold a lot of credibilities.

#1 WWE\'s unfair discrimination among superstars

3181536163_1_6_6XDexhP3.jpg (543361)

Everything that happens on screens is very much scripted and it follows the narrative that WWE wants us to absorb and follow accordingly. It isn’t new for the hardcore fan to know that a wrestler’s body goes through many trials and tribulations.

But to know that a top star like Punk didn’t receive proper medical attention despite being a part of the biggest wrestling promotion in the world is revolting.

Just after it was reported that he ‘quit’ the WWE on the January 27th edition of Raw, he went to see a doctor who immediately told him that he has a full blown staph infection, which could have been fatal.

He had harsh words for the WWE doctors who were not up to their job and one of the doctor’s even asked ‘ What should I do?’ when Punk told him that he had a concussion at this year’s Royal Rumble.

They didn’t cut out a lump that was in Punk’s back (which later turned out to be a full blow infection and was cut out by another doctor) for nearly a month. Instead, they forced him to work through the pain while these same doctors have cut out a million lumps from other wrestlers back in the locker room.

My favorite CM Punk moment has to be this pipebomb by the way:
