5 instances when the fans tried to attack the superstars

Almost everyone knows that professional wrestling is scripted, and the matches choreographed. The performers spend years honing their craft, and no matter how good you are in the ring, there is always the element of risk involved when you step inside the squared circle. The superstars take great pride in performing for the fans, and live their dream of entertaining the fans all over the globe. But there are times when the fans forget that professional wrestling isn’t a legitimate sport, and that the superstars only perform for the cameras and the fans.During the days when kayfabe was protected by those involved in the business, there were instances when the bad guys had to be escorted out of the territories with the fear of the fans attacking them.Although that has changed since, with professional wrestling “coming out” as sports entertainment, there have been instances in the past when some of the fans tried to attack the superstars. In this article, we take a look at five instances when the fans tried to get their hands on professional wrestlers.

#5 Triple H

The cerebral assassin has been one of the most notable heels in the past decade, and no matter what anyone’s opinion is regarding Triple H as a professional wrestler, his moniker has worked wonders in the company, and has cemented his legacy in the organization. Triple H has been a heel for the majority of his career, and that was enough for one fan to try and get his hands on ‘The King of Kings’.

During a show, while Triple H was surrounded by his Evolution mates, a fan jumped the railing and tried to attack Triple H, but was immediately dragged away by the security personnel. Although he wasn’t physically hurt, this once again highlights the need for the fans to understand that professional wrestling, like any other soap opera, is only meant to entertain the fans around the world.

#4 Randy Orton

Orton was always considered to be a little hot headed, and he picked fights with even the journalists during his time as the WWE champion. The heel persona of Orton was one of the most well orchestrated turns, and being a legitimate bad guy only helped Orton’s case during his run as the top heel in the company.

However, it came back to haunt Orton during a live event when WWE went to South Africa. During his trademark pose on the middle turnbuckle, a fan rushed to the ring and tried to low blow Orton from behind, but thankfully, unlike it is shown on TV the move isn’t quite as effective in real life. Security personnel and the referees intervened and took the kid away, but not before Orton got a good measure of a kick to the kid’s face.

#3 Eddie Guerrero

Eddie Guerrero was an amazing wrestler, and an equally amazing “entertainer”. Eddie was also a very effective heel, and his heel persona angered a lot of people, including his final heel turn during his feud with Rey Mysterio. So it didn’t surprise a lot of people when the fans booed or tried to get their hands on Eddie, but the manner in which that happened stunned quite a lot of fans.

During a ladder match with Rob Van Dam for the WWE Intercontinental title, Eddie tried to climb the ladder to retrieve the belt, but a fan dashed to the ring and pushed the ladder from under his feet. Luckily for Eddie, he managed to land on his feet and escaped serious injuries while the security tackled the perpetrator, and Eddie too managed to get back with some stiff kicks to the fan.

#2 Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho is considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers and superstars of all time, and his charisma and verbal skills earned him many fans, aside from his in – ring prowess. Jericho was also one of the most hated heels during his bad guy days, and has the knack of ticking people off without doing much. But during one instance, the exchange went too far and resulted in Jericho punching a woman, while shoving the other fans.

What started as a normal name – calling by the fans soon turned ugly, as the fans jumped in front of his car and blocked his way. As Chris got out of his car, the mob started shoving and pushing Jericho, and he retaliated by punching a fan while asking the security personnel to do their jobs. It was also one of the most heated and legitimate confrontations outside the wrestling ring.

#1 Jeff Jarrett

The former NWA – TNA world champion was always known as one of the major heels, and during his run in TNA, he was the undisputed biggest heel of the company. Although some fans would argue that the reason why Jeff is hated by the wrestling fans is because of his close relationships with the management, first in WCW and then in TNA, being one of the founding fathers of the organization, there was no question about the fans disliking Jarrett.

During one instance, Jeff had a heated conversation with a fan, and when Jeff invited the fan to cross the railing and step inside the ring, the fan obliged. It is an unwritten rule that the fans should never cross the protective railing, and the fan found what happens when you do, as he was attacked by security personnel and other wrestlers.
