5 Superstars who should have faced The Undertaker at WrestleMania

It is almost two years since Brock Lesnar did the unthinkable and became the one in Twenty one and one. Undertaker’s streak ending at WrestleMania XXX was probably one of the most shocking moments of the decade but at the same time, it made the fans think about the alternatives of parallel universe. In the 24 matches that Taker had at WrestleMania, some were classic encounters while others were forgettable outings. While he faced off against mainstay names like Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Brock Lesnar, there were a category of other great wrestlers who did not make it the cut.The imagination of a regular WWE fan will run wild when thinking about all those possible names who could have challenged Taker at WrestleMania. Here is a look at some of the best names from that imaginary lot.

#5 Daniel Bryan

The prospects of seeing Daniel Bryan face Undertaker at WrestleMania make all the wrestling fans drool. Bryan only became a phenomenon towards WrestleMania XXX but there were a lot of opportunities for the company before that to elevate Bryan.

Instead of that forgettable match that he had with Sheamus a couple of years back, Bryan could have easily being put into an angle with Taker.

With the experience of Taker coupled with Bryan’s wrestling skills, this match would have been a show stealer on any card. Along with this, Bryan would have established himself as a top heel rather than an underdog baby face.

#4 Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle and Undertaker are known for delivering some great matches. These are two superstars that take the business seriously and every time they step in between the ropes, there will be an intensity that keeps the fans rooted to their seat.

They had a ground breaking feud outside WrestleMania but with the chemistry they had, Vince McMahon should have given Angle a shot at the streak.

There are rumors of both superstars wanting the match to happen only to be rejected by Vince for some reason. If it had happened, it would have ranked right up there alongside the Michaels – Taker showdown as one of the best matches in the streak.

#3 Goldberg

Goldberg might not sound like a credible opponent for Taker. Despite his large winning streak, Goldberg barely knew some wrestling moves and was not known for being a humble guy as well.

However, one thing he lacked in his WWE run was a big match. Goldberg’s spell in WWE was a complete disaster and one of the reasons for it was his horrible booking. WWE built up a match between Goldberg and Lesnar at WrestleMania XX but since both wrestlers were going out, no one cared about it.

Imagine Taker being in the place of Lesnar at that show. With a locker room general like Taker standing against him, Goldberg wouldn’t have slept through his match like he did with Lesnar. Also, Taker would have made him look good as well.

#2 Mick Foley

There wouldn’t be many other superstars out there who gave Undertaker a run for his money than Mick Foley. Foley and Taker had a lengthy feud in the late 90s which ran through a lot of pay-per-views.

This includes the legendary Hell in a Cell match where Foley redefined the word hardcore. However, despite pushing Taker to the limit on all occasions, Foley never faced the Phenom at WrestleMania.

A match between Foley and Taker would have served as a great addition to any WrestleMania card purely on basis of the in ring psychology. Since the duo is not known for messing up their matches, the in ring action would have also been solid.

#1 John Cena

In a career that saw 15 WWE Championship reigns, two royal rumble wins, numerous WrestleMania main events and many more, John Cena did everything except face Undertaker at WrestleMania.

With all the 50-50 reaction that Cena was getting from the fans, the WWE could have easily made him into a credible opponent for Undertaker. Cena would have also been the first real threat to Undertaker’s streak since he was having a Superman like run.

As a wrestling match, this might’ve only been an average affair but the hype for Cena – Taker would have covered up for it in no time. it will go down in history as a missed opportunity and will remain there forever.
