WWE RAW 21st December 2015 - 3 Things That Worked

Raw turned out to be a perfect outing for the twoThe Slammy Awards episode is never considered to be that can be compelling television, but with the kind of week the WWE has had with NXT Takeover London, TLC and last week's brilliant Raw main event – even this episode with the Slammy Awards seemed pretty decent. This night wasn't much about developing storylines. It was just supposed to be a one-off awards night before the holidays. There were just fleeting moments that may look great in retrospect much like Rollins coming back to hold his Slammy and announce that he'll reclaim the championship he never lost. Here are the 3 Things that worked on this night-

#1 Rollins appearance

Rollins won the Superstar of The year Slammy.

Not that Slammys mean much in the long run, but they do have minuscule consequences. It was right to not let Reigns take this one. It would have been quite an overstatement after the brilliant week he’s had.

And it was great to see Rollins make an appearance, albeit with crutches. His speech was short and on point, not the drag along, not the shutting up gimmick he had been following since he turned heel.

#2 Pop Culture reference

WWE always takes something from other mediums of entertainment and mixes it with its own narrative.

So, it was no surprise that they decided to play out the actual LOL moment of the year when Steve Harvey announced the ‘WRONG’ winner for Miss Universe. And R- Truth playing out the delusional gimmick played out Harvey’s role as he announced Paige as the Diva of the Year when actually Nikki Bella was the winner.

Count on WWE to capitalize on some pop culture mishap.

Also, Bella gave a really nice speech, breaking her heel character.

#3 Babyface Reigns

Living in his moment.

It wasn’t just Philadelphia – Reigns returned to a welcoming reaction on Raw and he interrupted the only Authority figure left on Raw – Stephanie McMahon.

He had the audience in the palm of his hands and he actually made Stephanie McMahon look like a child throwing a temper. That’s rare and that’s why it’s awesome.

Later on in the night, he finally ran in to make the save for his brother Dean Ambrose by taking out the League of Nations. He threw a chair into the cage for Ambrose and needless to say, the landing of the chair was just perfect.

Everything he did tonight seemed to work.
