Top 5 funniest moments in WrestleMania history

WrestleMania is the pay-per-view where WWE decides to go into a full on serious mode. There is no room for screw ups in the granddaddy of them all and the company puts in an extra mile of effort to make sure that the fans go home happy rather than asking for refunds.Although the pay-per-view is viewed with paramount seriousness by Vince McMahon, he always has an eye for some laughter. This has resulted in some funny memorable moments in WrestleMania history. With WrestleMania 31 just around the corner, let’s take some time out from the Road to WrestleMania and take a look at the funniest moments in the pay-per-view’s history.

#8 Honorable Mention: The Gimmick Battle Royal (WrestleMania 17)

For one reason or the other, WrestleMania has had a lovely relationship with battle Royals. The 17th edition of the pay-per-view saw gimmick battle royal were all the superstars from the past was put into a funny match. It had the likes of Kamala, Jim Cornette, The Iron Sheik, Doink the clown, Michael Hayes, Sgt. Slaughter and even the Gobbeldy Gooker.

All these men looked ridiculously out of place and at the end of the day, when Iron Sheik walked out as the winner, the fans were having cramps in their stomach from all the laughs.

#7 Another Honorable Mention: Big Show in large diaper (WrestleMania 21)

The motive of WWE to include a sumo match in WrestleMania is still a big mystery. The WWE Universe looked least interested in the concept but WWE for some reason built it up like it was some end of the world battle. The sumo match saw Big Show go against Akebono and though it only lasted below two minutes, the funny part about the whole match was seeing Big Show in a big black diaper.

#6 Okay! The last honorable mention: Sid screws up

Okay! So this is the last honorable mention and I swear I’m not lying. There are a lot of bad microphone workers out there and Sid belonged to that list. He had a big push during his stay in the business but Sid failed to ride on the same and ended up being just one of those ‘would have been’ cases.

His addition to the WrestleMania funny moments came at WrestleMania 13. Sid was supposed to pull off a promo and he botched it big time. “WrestleMania is the biggest event in the……..” even a two year old wrestling fan could fill in the line but unfortunately for Sid, he couldn’t and embarrassed himself in front of the fans.

#5 Was it Silver or Super? (WrestleMania 30)

Since we are talking about botched promos, how can we keep out the legendary Hulk Hogan from the list? After a long stay in TNA, Hogan made his return to the WWE last year and was made the host of WrestleMania 30. Everything looked perfect about the show until Hogan decided to take the microphone in his hands.

He started off by greeting the fans and screwed up big time when he addressed the venue as Silver dome when it was actually the superdome. And he was the host of the show, could it get any worse? Rock and Steve Austin later helped Hogan to cover up but it was funny to say the least.

#4 Pete Rose gets a ride (WrestleMania XIV)

Peter Rose has something that Chris Benoit and Owen Hart doesn’t, a Hall of Fame Spot, and this is not even the funny part. He has had four appearances in WrestleMania and doesn’t have fond memories about them. The funniest appearance of Rose arguably came during WrestleMania XIV.

He came in as the guest ring announcer and was supposed to announce the match between Kane and Undertaker. But Instead, Rose went on to insult the Boston fans. He was getting a lot of heat for his segment and it was wrapped up when Kane came out. The big red machine, without any discussion, went on to tombstone Rose and shut him up for the better.

#3 JBL Gone in 11 seconds (WrestleMania 25)

Have you seen matches which are so short that you could upload them to Instagram? (Apart from Rhonda Rousey’s latest triumph that is) Well, the WrestleMania match between JBL and Rey Mysterio was something similar.

The two men faced off against each other for the Intercontinental championship in WrestleMania 25 and in the time you used to read the last sentence, JBL lost his championship. No one expected the match to be this short and JBL went on to end his in-ring career in the post-match segment. Seeing someone arrogant like JBL getting embarrassed by the ultimate Underdog was a moment to behold and it is always funny to see bullies getting bullied, isn’t it?

#2 And not closely behind (WrestleMania 28)

Okay, so if you thought the last one was a short match, prepare yourself for Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 28. For starters, the match between JBL and Rey was a midcard affair. It was just the intercontinental title on the line and there was no pressure on the superstars to perform.

This on the other hand was an entirely different story. Sheamus came into the pay-per-view as the Royal Rumble winner and the World Heavyweight championship was on the line. There was a big match feel to the entire thing and what did WWE do? They ended the match in 18 seconds. Bryan was buried, Sheamus got a cheap win, AJ Lee’s kiss proved to be the kiss of death, and the joke, well, it was on the fans.

#1 Bow down to Santina (WrestleMania 25)

Santino Marella is arguably one of the most underrated comic superstars in the company’s history. He started off as the Intercontinental champion and despite being an average technician, Santino stuck to the lighter side of WWE programming and flourished there. He gave the fans a lot of moments to laugh and WrestleMania 25 produced one of his best works.

WWE booked a 25 diva (24 technically or biologically) battle royal match for the pay-per-view and one of the entrants were Santina, which basically was Santino dressed as a girl. He then went on to do the unthinkable and won the battle royal. Santina was crowned Miss. WrestleMania that night and though it might sound cringe worthy on paper, it was a funny moment indeed.
