Kochi Blue Spikers is a professional volleyball team that is based in the city of Kochi as the name suggests, and play in the RuPay Pro Volleyball League. It is one of the two teams in the league to hail from the state of Kerala, the other franchise being Calicut Heroes. They will be beginning their campaign on the opening day itself against U Mumba Volley on the 2nd of February, at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Kochi.
Veteran US blocker David Lee will be the International icon player for the Kochi Blue Spikers, while Mohan Ukkrapandian will be the Indian icon player for his team. As the captain of the Indian team, “Ukkra” will also be fulfilling the duties of captaincy for the Kochi Blue Spikers. The team will be coached by T C Jyotish.
The team have adopted the motto of “Kochi Karaney” in Malayalam and “Blue Rises” in English, across the social media. The Spikers intend to provide a proud platform to the players and fans. The team will be donning the blue jersey, in contrast to the red jersey of local rivals Calicut Heroes.
The franchise is owned by reputed business house and finance company, the Muthoot Pappachan Group led at the helm by Director, Mr. Thomas Muthoot. Alongside their success in business industry, they have been at the forefront of building the base of sports in India with long-term plans and investments in several sports field including cricket, football, kabaddi, volleyball and more.
Despite his advanced years, David Lee has performed at the topmost level for both club and country and still has what it takes to be ranked among the elites. One of the most widely known volleyball players, he has often been dubbed as the “Best Volleyball Player in the World”. He will be looking forward to a new challenge in India in the form of the Rupay Pro Volleyball League. The Tuskers attack will also feature veteran Slovak, Andrej Patuc.
Mohan Ukkrapandian, the captain of the Indian National Volleyball team will have a lot responsibility on his shoulders. However, all the eyes will be on Prabhagaran, who had won the most spike points for India at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang. Signed for 12 lakhs, he is the second most costliest buy of the auction.
