Bernard Tomic rallies to beat Lukas Rosol in Monte Carlo Opener

Bernard Tomic fought back from one-set down to send Lukas Rosol packing in the first round of Monte Carlo Masters.

Promising youngster Bernard Tomic from Australia rallied from one-set down to oust Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday. This was Tomic’s second win over Rosol this season. The 22-year-old Tomic will now face the winner of the Ernests Gulbis- Andreas Haider-Maurer encounter.

in a match that lasted 90 minutes, Tomic succeeded in converting eight of the 11 break points. The win against Rosol was Tomic’s 21st this year. The Australian has been impressive this season, going into the quarter-final of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells last month.

Victor Estrella Burgos, meanwhile, set-up a second round match-up with fifth seed David Ferrer after he took out Simone Bolleli 6-4, 7-6 in a match that lasted an hour and 39 minutes.

Returning from injury, Florian Mayer beat Mikhail Youzhny 7-6 (5), 6-4 to cruise into the second round in Monte Carlo. Mayer, who was a former World Number 18, had been battling a groin injury for the past 18 months.
