Latest ATP Rankings: Somdev stays put at 113th, Ankita surges to 330th

India’s highest ranked men’s singles player Somdev Devvarman, who performed exceedingly well at the recently ATP Citi Open in Washington, held on to 113thspot in the latest ATP rankings.

Somdev upset defending champion and world number 25 Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in the second round before being slugged out by the big-serving American John Isner in the third round.

The Indian had earlier won the recent McDonald’s mid-Atlantic Open Clay Court Championships. Somdev had also earlier reached the semi-finals of the ATP Winnetka Challenger, where he lost to 102nd ranked American Jack Sock 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (5).

Somdev also made it to the semi-finals of the ATP Nottingham challenger tournament. He attained a semi-final finish at the ATP Caltanissetta Challenger in Italy, as well as a second-round appearance at the French Open after going through the qualifying route.

Among the other Indians, Prakash Amritraj, son of the legendary Vijay Amritraj, dropped five places to 272nd. Saketh Myneni, who won both the Chandigarh and Rohtak Futures earlier this year, stayed put at 312th.

There was disappointment for Sanam Singh as he slipped five spots to 339th. Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, who won the Coimbatore ITF Futures this year, fell seven spots to 377th.

N Sriram Balaj, who won the Chennai ITF Futures this year, slumped fifteen places to occupy the 411th spot. Vijayant Malik dropped four places to the 451st position.

Among the Indian women, Ankita Raina climbed twenty-two places to the 330th spot and continues to be the country’s highest ranked women’s singles player.

Rishika Sunkara, who was breathing down the neck of Ankita Raina earlier this year, jumped twenty-three spots to 508th.

Nidhi Chilumula advanced two places to be placed 590th. Prarthana Thombare also moved up two places to be ranked 592nd.
