Coco Gauff appeared to be at her wits' end during her challenging fourth-round clash against compatriot Emma Navarro at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Gauff directed her frustration towards her coach Brad Gilbert and her team during the match, which has annoyed tennis fans.

Aiming to reach her first quarterfinal at the grasscourt Major, Gauff took on Emma Navarro in a blockbuster all-American clash. Although the World No. 2 was widely considered the favorite heading into the match, Navarro stunned the 20-year-old with her dominant display.

Navarro pulled off a 6-4, 6-3 upset over Gauff in just an hour and 14 minutes to advance to the maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal of her career. The World No. 2 was let down by her forehand in the match, as she recorded 16 forehand unforced errors off that wing compared to six unforced errors on her backhand.

Visibly frustrated with her inability to counter Emma Navarro, Coco Gauff repeatedly yelled at her player's box and coach Brad Gilbert for guidance during the contest.

"Tell me something, you're not saying anything," she yelled at one point.

Fans were unimpressed with the World No. 2 for "pouting" and "moaning" to her coach during the match, and took digs at the 20-year-old's perceived immaturity.

"I don’t understand why Coco Gauff is moaning to her team in the box. She’s the one hitting the f**king ball!! Petulant child who hates losing," one fan commented.
"So Coco Gauff acting like a brat right now. Expecting her team to just tell her what to do against the opponent. Kind of throwing the match. Grow up," another fan chimed in.
"Coco spent all her time pouting and blaming her team instead of strategizing on how to beat Navarro. None of the other top players are this dependent on coaching except maybe Sakkari," said another.

Others also contended that Gauff should be capable of strategizing and making adjustments on her own instead of constantly relying on her team for answers.

"She's in the round of 16 in Wimbledon. She needs to be able to figure it out, adjust and stop being so unsure and negative. All credit to Navarro. Coco needed to play way more aggressively," one fan posted.
"Coco Gauff play the game like the world-class player that you are. Quit looking in your in your box for Brad to give you the Answers. First serve in on critical points. Too many unforced errors. You MUST make your adjustments on court YOURSELF," another fan wrote.
"Coco Gauff is weak mentally. She got a lot of growing up to do. Kept talking to her coach like it was his fault lol. As a tennis player you gotta figure it out yourself when you’re playing. It ain’t BG’s fault you can’t get a forehand in, you gotta think and make the adjustment," said yet another.

"I did say 'Stop talking'" - Coco Gauff was 'frustrated' by coach Brad Gilbert's constant instructions at US Open 2023

Although Coco Gauff was annoyed by her coach Brad Gilbert's silence during her fourth-round clash against Emma Navarro at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, she faced the opposite problem during her encounter with Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round of the 2023 US Open.

Following her 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Wozniacki, the American admitted that she had asked Gilbert and her former coach Pere Riba to "stop talking" during the match because their constant coaching was aggravating her.

"Sometimes when I go to my towel, it's a reset moment. I don't need to hear anything. I just need to reset and think about me. I do think today I did say, ‘Stop talking’, at one point because I was getting frustrated," she said in her post-match press conference.

The 20-year-old also disclosed that her parents had informed her about Gilert's constant talking during her matches, but confessed that she could hardly hear his instructions while she was playing.

"Sometimes maybe you guys are hearing more than what I'm hearing. Sometimes I've heard from, like, off the camera, my parents will say, ‘Yeah, he talks a lot.’ But to be honest, I can't really hear him that well," she added.

Following her win over Coco Gauff, Navarro will face seventh seed Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals of the grasscourt Major.
