Former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev will find himself among the top stars of the game as the Russian is set to return to the top-10 of the ATP singles rankings.

The former US Open winner recently beat former World No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov, 6-1, 6-2, to reach the ATP Rotterdam final. Up against Dimitrov, Medvedev was in complete control of the game from the beginning as he decimated the Bulgarian in under 90 minutes. During the match, the Russian also fired eight aces and did not commit any double faults.

As reported by renowned tennis journalist Jose Morgado, Daniil Medvedev, who spent 16 weeks at the top of the singles rankings in 2022, will be returning to the top-10 of the upcoming singles rankings, to be released on Monday (February 20). However, if the Russian wins the final by beating either Jannik Sinner or wildcard entrant Tallon Griekspoor, he will cement his place in No. 9 of the rankings.

In the post-match press conference, Daniil Medvedev reflected on his semifinal win over Dimitrov. He spoke about the match and how it was physically difficult for him throughout the match.

“It was an amazing match. The score [looks] easy, but the match was not. I felt physically like I was playing five sets. [There were] some amazing rallies. It was 2-2, 0/40 for him in the second [set], so [I am happy] to manage to win it 6-2, just raise my level a little bit on serve and manage to keep consistent," Medvedev said.

Speaking further about his intentions to win the coveted title, Medvedev said "it would be amazing to win."

“It would be amazing [to win here],” said the former World No. 1 and 15-time tour-level titlist. “Every time I come here, and I think it is my fifth time here, everywhere there are photos of the winners and their names.
“I don’t remember who won it first time, but then Arthur Ashe won it [twice]. Then [others including] McEnroe, Borg, Edberg, and I’m like ‘Well, that tournament has a history for sure’. To add my name there would be amazing, but for this I need to play well in the final," Daniil Medvedev added.

The 2021 US Open winner has been in exceptional form since the beginning of the campaign. Since the opening match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Medvedev is yet to drop a set in the tournament. In the quarterfinals, he beat third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, 6-2, 6-4, to set up a clash with "Baby Fed" Dimitrov.
