Daria Kasatkina reveals her Engagement Story to figure skater Natalia Zabiiako & the WTA star who helped

Daria Kasatkina recently revealed the sweet story behind how she proposed to her now-fiancée Natalia Zabiiako, which happened on the Aussie's birthday. The tennis star also discussed how important the role of her fellow Aussie WTA star was in making the magical evening a success.

Kasatkina celebrated her 28th birthday on May 7, while she was gearing up for her Italian Open campaign, with her close friends. At the party, Daria Saville gifted her a special metal ring, which would end up sparking something inside the World No. 16.

"Okay, so that happened actually on my birthday, happened in Rome. And I have to be very thankful to Daria Saville because she was the one who bought me a gift, it's like a ring, but just a metal ring, very beautiful," Daria Kasatkina said.

As the dinner went on, Kasatkina, who was enjoying the comfort of being together with her loved ones on her special day, suddenly thought this was the correct moment to pop the question to Zabiiako. In 2022, Kasatkina came out as bisexual and not long after made her relationship with the Russian-Estonian figure skater public.

"I don't know, the dinner goes by, and I'm just sitting feeling good, and I feel like I don't know some conversations are going on, and I feel like 'Oh! Now I have to do it.' I just went on my knee, there were like bags with the presents, I almost fell, and then, yeah, everyone thought it was a joke, so Natasha, she's like 'Are you joking? Are you serious?'"

Though everyone at the party was surprised when the 28-year-old popped the question, Kasatkina reiterated her desire to get engaged, to which Zabiiako finally said yes. Funny enough, Zabiiako was still not convinced that the Aussie was being serious, and she asked her about it a few more times. The couple then went shopping for a ring following her Italian Open campaign

"And I was completely serious because I did it with the ring, the present from Dasha, and I was like 'Yes. I am serious. Are you going to marry me?' And she was like 'Well, yes!' And that was it. Everyone was crying and congratulating us, so, yeah, Natasha, for a couple of times, she was asking me, 'Are you, was it serious? Like 100% serious?' I said, 'Yes, it is.' So after the tournament we went and bought her a ring which she liked, and yeah, that's how it happened."

Daria Kasarkina and Natalia Zabiiako announced the news with a beautiful Instagram post in June, which received a lot of love from the tennis fraternity

.However, the Aussie tennis star has already kicked off planning her wedding.

Continuing her thoughts, Daria Kasatkina said they had already started planning their wedding seriously and spilled details about what they want it to be like.

"We're planning a wedding. It's pretty serious. There's no way back," Daria Kasatkina said.

"Next to the sea, with the closest people. I think it's going to be, not a big wedding, quite small. But yeah, we're for sure going to have a great time with closest people, friends, and family."

She then expressed how she was eagerly waiting for her wedding. To those unversed, the couple celebrated their third-year anniversary in October last year.

"I'm really waiting for this moment because it's going to be a very nice party."

On the tennis side, Daria Kasatkina kicked off her grass swing at the Queen's Club Championships but was ousted in the opening round by wild card Sonya Kartal 1-6, 6-3, 3-6. She is slated to compete at the Berlin Open next.
