Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the inaugural ATX Open due to illness.

Raducanu was scheduled to compete in the ATX Open in Austin, Texas, alongside the likes of Danielle Collins, Sloane Stephens, Peyton Stearns, and others. It was also supposed to be her first appearance on the court since losing in the second round of the Australian Open to American teenager Coco Gauff.

However, the Brit withdrew from the event, and the tournament organizers announced the news on Twitter. Raducanu stated that she will be unable to compete due to tonsillitis and thanked the organizers for their hospitality.

"I’m sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open. I am currently suffering from tonsillitis and am unable to compete this week. Thank you to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin," Emma Raducanu said.

Emma Raducanu was coached by Dmitry Tursunov for two months in 2022 before he left her camp at the end of the regular season. Tursunov has now teamed up with Belinda Bencic.

Tursunov revealed why he stopped working with the Brit on a recent episode of The Craig Shapiro Tennis Podcast, saying the negotiations went on for far too long and his needs were overlooked.

"I stopped the negotiations. I felt like the negotiations went too long. Too far that wasn’t a solid commitment, not on the terms that I liked. We started to negotiate over things that were so trivial and insignificant in my mind that it wouldn’t have worked. I didn’t feel secure enough," Tursunov said.

The Russian then stated that he did not believe their coaching relationship could be "serious" and "long-term," and that it could end at any time over something "insignificant."

"I didn’t feel like it’s a serious set up I didn’t feel like it’s gonna be a long-term relationship. I felt like it at any point it can break over something insignificant and I could have been wrong maybe I had PTSD, you know, from previous relationships," Tursunov said.

Emma Raducanu is currently working with Bencic's former coach, Sebastian Sachs. Sachs worked with Julia Gorges and as part of Victoria Azarenka's team before helping Bencic break into the world's top 10. He is the Brit's fifth coach in 18 months.
