Aryna Sabalenka hitting 60+ unforced errors during her semifinal match against Marie Bouzkova at the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open has sparked discussions among fans. The top seed lost to the Czech in a topsy-turvy three-setter, bringing an end to her campaign.
Sabaneka, who skipped the Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics due to a shoulder injury, kicked off her North American hardcourt swing at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington. Seeded first, she began her campaign with a three-set win against Kamilla Rakhimova and followed it up with a statement straight-set win against compatriot Victoria Azarenka.
The Belarusian faced Marie Bouzkova in the semifinals, who managed to take the first set. The World No. 3 leveled the scoreboard by taking the second but lost the decider, giving the Czech a place in the final.
However, an notable stat from the game was pointed out by a fan on X (formerly Twitter) which showed that Sabalenka had hit 62 unforced errors in the semifinals.
Fans were surprised to see the huge amount of unforced errors hit by Sabalenka and reacted to it. A fan wondered if the Belarusian was still injured or playing badly.
"So uhm is she still injured or just terrible?" the fan said.
Another fan used a number of unfavorable adjectives to describe the Belarusian's play:
"Deplorable, hideous, heinous, insidious, disgusting, abhorrent, evil-" the fan opined.
Here are some other reactions from the fans.
"They it would have been 100+ unforced errors and 34 double faults in 2022 She has come so far," a fan said.
"Wow how the hell do you hit that many," another fan added.
"She had an era of an enormous amount of double faults (often hitting 20+ in a single match), now seems to be in an era of an enormous amount of unforced errors. Hoping the errors go down as she regains her match fitness," a fan said.
"#selfdestruction," a fan said.
Aryna Sabalenka will continue North American hardcourt campaign at National Bank Open

Though her Mubadala Ctiti DC Open may have ended disappointing, Aryna Sabalenka will carry on with her North American hardcourt campaign at the National Bank Open in Canada.
Sabalenka will be seeded second at the WTA 1000 and will receive a bye as a result of it. She will kick off her campaign against the winner of the opening round match between Yue Yuan and Cristina Busca.
