Novak Djokovic's wife, Jelena, recently opened up about the special bond the Serb shares with their children, Tara and Stefan. The couple got married in 2014 and welcomed their son, Stefan, in October of the same year. Their daughter Tara was born three years later in September 2017.
The former World No.1 most recently competed at the 2024 US Open where he was the second seed. He defeated qualifier Radu Albot in the first round and then overcame compatriot Laslo Djere in the second round. However, his title defense came to an end in the third round when he was defeated by the 28th seed Alexei Popyrin.
Djokovic's wife Jelena recently delved into Novak's relationship with their children, Tara and Stefan, while speaking to developmental psychologist Dr. Gordon Neufeld for Vogue Adria. She described how being with her family fills her with energy. Jelena said that being with her family makes her fill up with energy. She shared that the Serb is a "playful father" and that he is great at playing with the children.
Jelena also expressed that Djokovic brings joy to the family and helps alleviate stress. She said:
"Yes, being together and having free hugs really helps me to fill up with energy. Reading books and playing games are very important for all of us. Novak is great at playing with children, he is a very playful father, which brings joy to the family and helps us with all the stress."
Jelena also revealed that both she and Novak Djokovic are intuitive parents who prioritize simple yet meaningful connections with their children.
"It is really something valuable, something to have and to work on. It came to us intuitively because we were just responding to what our kids needed by doing these funny things. Sometimes the simplest things we do are actually the most important," she added.
Novak Djokovic: "Out of the two parents I am the one that is responsible for Stefan & Tara's healthy lifestyle"
During an interview with the Tennis Channel earlier this year, Novak Djokovic revealed that among him and his wife Jelena, he takes responsibility for ensuring a healthy lifestyle for his children, Stefan and Tara.
"Out of the two parents I am the one that is responsible for their activities, sports, healthy lifestyle," he said.
The Serb stated that he wants his children to stay active and participate in sports, whether it be tennis or any other physical activity.
"I keep on in a way reminding them how important it is to be active, just do sports, I mean whether it is tennis or whatever it is, just be active, be out there. So I try to take them on with me on tennis every day, even if it's the match day I want them to be here with me," he added.
Following his recent third-round defeat at the US Open, Novak Djokovic will next compete at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, a tournament he has won a record four times. The ATP Masters 1000 tournament is scheduled to take place from October 2nd to 13th and will feature players like Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev.
