Novak Djokovic's wife, Jelena, proudly acknowledged her husband’s introduction as the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) at the 2024 Shanghai Masters. The Serbian tennis legend, aiming for his 100th ATP title, made a triumphant return to the Shanghai Masters after a five-year hiatus, marking his 10th appearance at the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 event.
After failing to defend his title at the US Open, Djokovic helped Serbia secure a spot in the 2025 Davis Cup qualifiers. The Serb's return to the Shanghai Masters was highly anticipated, given his previous record of four titles at the event (2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018).
As the fourth seed, the Serb received a bye into the second round, where he faced Alex Michelsen, ultimately winning 7-6(3), 7-6(9) in a match that lasted an hour and 55 minutes.
Jelena recently reposted a video on X in which the Serb was introduced as the “GOAT” as he arrived on the court with a child mascot for his second-round match.

The GOAT debate in tennis has been a topic of intense discussion among fans and experts alike. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal have each made compelling cases for the title. The debate often centers around various metrics, including Grand Slam titles, head-to-head records, and weeks spent as World No. 1.
"I'm not going to say I am the greatest player of all time, I leave it up to others" - Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic maintains that he won’t label himself as the greatest of all time despite his remarkable achievements. The Serb has won 24 Grand Slam titles, surpassing Roger Federer (20) and Rafael Nadal (22).
The Serb has also spent a record 428 weeks as the World No. 1. Additionally, he holds the record for the most ATP Masters 1000 titles, with 40 to his name.
Before starting his 2023 Paris Masters campaign, the Serbian tennis icon expressed his views on the ongoing GOAT debate during a press conference.
"I'm not going to say I am the greatest player of all time. It's not up to me to say things like that. I leave it up to others. Obviously I'm very proud that my greatest rival could say such things, but I leave this discussion to other people," the Serb said.
Fourth seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, where he will take on either 28th seed Flavio Cobolli or wildcard Stan Wawrinka on October 7.
