Roger Federer has once again expressed his desire to be present in some capacity at the 2023 Laver Cup, which is set to be held in September. The Swiss maestro will return to the Laver Cup as a non-playing team member for the first time ever, having retired from professional tennis at the same tournament last season.

Back at the 2022 Laver Cup, Federer bid farewell to the sport with a doubles match alongside his greatest rival and good friend Rafael Nadal, in what turned out to be one of the most emotional nights in sporting history. The Swiss great was part of a dream line-up for Team Europe that included Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray alongside himself and Nadal.

Federer is now set to return for the 2023 Laver Cup in Vancouver, Canada, albeit not as a player.

"Looking forward to seeing everyone in Vancouver," the 41-year-old wrote on Instagram, reacting to a Laver Cup build-up post.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion is expected to take up the role of mentor for Team Europe, at least for the time being. Bjorn Borg will return as the team's captain, a role that Federer is expected to take up in the future once Borg steps aside.

"Roger Federer was sighted at the All England Club last week, his second visit in recent months," read a recent report by the Daily Mail. "Wimbledon is exploring some kind of recognition and role for him going forward, but its form has yet to be determined."

Federer's last competitive tour-level match was at Wimbledon in 2021, where he bowed out of the tournament in the quarterfinals. He briefly visited the grounds at SW19 for the 2022 edition, as one of the special guests for the centennial celebrations of Wimbledon's iconic Centre Court.
