Roger Federer's Wimbledon return and a chance for his legion of fans to see him at his most successful Grand Slam tournament yet again is very much on the cards, as per recent reports. The eight-time Wimbledon singles champion is believed to have recently visited SW19 for discussions about potentially taking up a role as a commentator or an analyst during the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

Federer has been in talks with the BBC of late about being a key part of their coverage of the grass court Grand Slam going forward, as initially reported by The Telegraph. If the Swiss great and the broadcaster manage to strike a deal, it will come as a huge development as the 20-time Grand Slam champion will be seen in a completely different role after retiring from competitive tennis in September last year.

As per a report in The Daily Mail, Federer visited the All England Club last week in London for the second time to chalk out details about "some kind of recognition and role for him going forward."

While the details of his new role are yet to be known, he is largely expected to take up commentary and analysis for the majority of the two-week duration of the Major in June-July.

"Roger Federer was sighted at the All England Club last week, his second visit in recent months," read a report by the Daily Mail.
"Wimbledon is exploring some kind of recognition and role for him going forward, but its form has yet to be determined."

The BBC is also looking to shake things up this season as the 2023 edition of Wimbledon without the legendary Sue Baker as the face of its broadcast. The former Swiss player's addition would thus be a massive development.

The 41-year-old's last competitive match was on the iconic Centre Court back in 2021, as he bowed out of the tournament with a quarterfinals loss. He made an appearance at the 2022 Championships as part of the centennial celebrations on Centre Court.

During one of Roger Federer's most recent visits to Wimbledon, where he is still the player with the most men's singles titles in the Open Era, he had an unexpected run-in with a security guard who refused to let him in without a membership card.

The Swiss tennis legend, who visited the All England Club a couple of months ago for the first time since retirement, did not carry his membership card along with him as he never needed it to enter the venue while he was still an active player. Speaking about the hilarious incident, the eight-time champion explained how he tried to convince the guard that he, in fact, was Roger Federer himself and was a member of the AELTC.

"I look at her one last time and...I'm so sorry, I couldn't believe and still can't believe I said this and because I still feel bad about it," he revealed on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah in December. "I look at her and say, 'I have won this tournament eight times. Please believe me, I am a member!'"

He was finally allowed entry to the grounds of his favorite Major and it was probably during this visit that discussions about his new role for the 2023 edition first took place.
