The Frenchman had lost in the qualifying event before making it to the main draw as a Lucky Loser, where he beat Australia's Christopher O'Connell in straight sets to reach the second round.
Medvedev and Mannarino are tied 4-4 in their head-to-head meetings on the ATP Tour, with the latter having won two of their three encounters in s'-Hertogenbosch (2016, 2022-23). Former World No. 21 Dan Evans qualified for the men's singles draw at this year's Libema Open before beating Rinky Hijikata from a set down in the first round on Wednesday. Making his tournament debut in 's-Hertogenbosch, the 35-year-old is a dark horse considering his aptitude for grass.
Second-seeded Ugo Humbert, on his part, received a first-round Bye at the ATP 250 tournament. Both teams weathered a deciding-set super-tiebreaker in their respective first-round matches and will be looking to reach the semifinals in 's-Hertogenbosch.
Metkic and Venus, on their part, have both enjoyed favorable results at the 250-level event in the past.
