Several tennis fans were left fuming after finding out that the French Open women's doubles champions were entirely snubbed by the front page of a prominent Italian sports newspaper. However, the page did feature a section on Jannik Sinner, who lost the men's singles final at the clay Major to Carlos Alcaraz.

On Sunday, June 8, Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani, the all-Italian No. 2 seeds in the women's doubles draw at Roland Garros, clinched the title with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 victory against Aleksandra Krunic and Anna Danilina. On the same day, Sinner squandered a two-set lead against Alcaraz, who staged a heroic comeback to successfully defend the French Open men's singles title.

The front page of next day's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport featured Jannik Sinner, but bizarrely had no mention of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani's successful women's doubles campaign at Roland Garros.

Annoyed by the snub, many tennis fans on X (formerly Twitter) blatantly criticized the newspaper.

"2 Italian women won a grandslam yesterday, not even a picture," a fan wrote.
"Where are Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani? They won a Slam in doubles," commented another.
"Where is Jasmine and Errani you bums," questioned one.
"Haven't heard about Paolini and Errani? Roland Garros? Grand slam champions? Rings a bell?," another fan asked.
"I'm disgusted," added one.
"No matter what the women do, they still don’t respect them enough," yet another fan chimed in.

Following her doubles title triumph with compatriot Errani, Paolini highlighted doubles tennis' lack of popularity by comparing it to the awareness of singles tennis players among fans of the sport.

In the aftermath of their women's doubles success at this year's Roland Garros, both Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini reflected on the lack of attention that doubles tennis gets. According to Errani, doubles players aren't promoted as much as singles players, and this results in limited interest.

Paolini, who also happens to be an established singles player, echoed her compatriot's sentiments, saying:

"There is a big difference; we just have to ask people who the top ten singles players are and who the top ten doubles pairs are, the situation changes there. I agree with Sara that maybe people should know more about who plays doubles because in Italy, for example, every time we play, it's packed because people know us."

Errani couldn't reach the women's singles main draw at the 2025 French Open after losing in qualifying. Paolini though, was the No. 4 seed in singles, and reached the fourth round of the clay Major, where she was defeated by Elina Svitolina.
