Frances Tiafoe is determined to win his first Mexican Open title. The American has been a regular at the clay court tournament for the past few years but has yet to make it past the Round of 16.

In 2019, he was defeated by fellow countryman Mackenzie McDonald in the Round of 16 in three sets, 6-7(7), 7-5, 6-3. The following year, he was eliminated in the first round at Acapulco by Stan Wawrinka in three sets, 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(1). In 2021, the American was ousted by Lorenzo Musetti in a thrilling three-set match, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(1).

Since turning pro in 2015, Tiafoe has established himself as a formidable force on the ATP tour. He caused a major upset at the 2022 US Open, beating 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the fourth round in four sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. This remarkable victory was a testament to the American's skill and determination.
