British tennis player Liam Broady, a Manchester City fan, recently trolled Manchester United after the latter's FA Cup semifinal win over Coventry City on Sunday, April 21.

United stormed to a 3-0 lead against Coventry at Wembley. Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire scored in the first half and captain Bruno Fernandes furthered United's lead early in the second half. However, inexplicably, the 12-time FA Cup champions allowed Coventry to get back in the game.

With the scores level at 3-3 after 90 minutes, the match headed into extra time, where both teams failed to break the deadlock. A penalty shootout ensued, which United won 4-2 to seal their place in the final, where they will face bitter rivals Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's men narrowly defeated Chelsea on Sunday, April 20, in the other semifinal, thanks to Bernardo Silva's solitary goal.

Earlier in the week, City were ousted from the Champions League by Real Madrid after their quarterfinal second leg went to penalties. Broady used this example to illustrate the difference between City and a United team that has been marred by inconsistency this season.

"120mins of football against Real Madrid. 120mins of football against Coventry. We are not the same," Broady wrote on X (formerly Twitter), followed by three laughing-out-loud emojis.

Guardiola was appointed as City's manager in 2016 but had an underwhelming first season in charge of the team. However, since then, the Spaniard has transformed City into one of the world's most feared football teams.

Apart from five Premier League titles, Guardiola has helped City to four EFL Cups, two FA Cups, one Champions League title, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, and two Community Shields.

Broady took a swipe at Guardiola's critics on social media last year after City won their fifth league title under the Spaniard. He indicated that football fans critical of Guardiola would always find something to undermine his achievements with City. He also urged them to be appreciative of the Spaniard's efforts.

"Funny how the narrative with Guardiola was that his football couldn’t be played in a physical league like the prem. Fast forward 7years he’s turned it into a farmers league and now it’s because anybody could win the league with the team he has. Just appreciate his greatness," Broady wrote.

On the tennis front, Broady's last ATP Tour-level outing came at the 2024 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he suffered a second-round exit after his loss to Thiago Seyboth Wild.
