The Laver Cup, named after the legendary Australian tennis player Rod Laver, was started in 2017 as a national tournament. Since its inception, it has stood apart from other competitions on tour, whether for the pristine locations or the black courts. Top players from different nations come together under one banner to fight for the gorgeous trophy, showcasing team spirit in a more individualistic sport.

The tournament is set to begin on 20 September and will last three days before we have a winner. Since the last two seasons, Team World, led by seven-time Grand Slam winner John McEnroe, has been on a winning streak, hoping to three-peat it in this year's version. Before that, Team Europe won every edition in this closely contested tournament.

In the 2023 version, Team World showcased unreal domination, winning the competition with a tally of 13-2. The tournament's sixth edition was held in Vancouver, Canada, at Rogers Arena. Team Europe combined Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz, Alejandro Davidovich, Arthur Fils, and Gael Monfils, led by eleven-time Grand Slam winner captain Bjorn Borg. Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas were also supposed to be a part of the team but withdrew due to injuries, resulting in the inclusion of Fils and Davidovich.

On the other hand, Team World comprised Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton, and Francisco Cerúndolo under John McEnroe. Nick Kyrgios was also supposed to be a part of the team but withdrew a month before the tournament, resulting in Milos Raonic's inclusion as an alternate.

The final day of the 2023 Laver Cup included dominant performances from Shelton and Tiafoe, who won their doubles match in tiebreakers against Hurkacz and Rublev, which secured enough points for their team to skip the remaining set of matches as they had already secured victory on points. Currently, Team Europe has four Laver Cup titles, while Team World has two.

“I barely know Carlos Alcaraz so I’m really excited to see him play for the very first time."

To this, Alcaraz replied recently,

"For me, it's great. I will try to be ready for that time, try to put on a show, and put a good point on the match to make him enjoy watching the match. But for me, hearing those words from him is great."

Alcaraz will represent Team Europe after successfully leading Spain to the Davis Cup finals. World No. 3 will have a great test alongside some of his rivals, such as Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev, who are on the same team, trying to develop camaraderie and win together.
